Default GREAT Hawkeye speakers

I have just upgraded my cars front door speakers and can say that the "DB Audio T-Rex6.1's " i have fitted are awesome, you need to fit a speaker fitting adaptor CON-CT25VX04 they fit very well and are not obstructing the window when wound down and they sound great. (you have to drill 1 hole to secure this speaker adaptor, the other 2 holes match with the existing ones, drill the top hole)

I am buying the DB Audio T-Rex5.1's for the rear doors now, to replace the In-phase SXT5's i bought last week as they are awful in comparison, i did have In-Phase SXT6.1C components in the front but they sounded awful too, so i sent them back and replaced them with the T-Rex6.1 which were also cheaper.

Just thought i would share this with you incase you are tempted to replace your door speakers in your hawkeye, i also left the standard tweeters in the fronts and am running them too.

And i did change the head unit to a JVC KW-XR611 and that fits very well and looks and sounds great too.

I am just running off the HU 4x50w and to be honest it sounds brilliant, my HU volume goes to 50 and i can say i do not need to go over 30, it does start to distort on certain tracks when over 30. I have the loud feature turned on and it is crystal clear, bass is tight and punchy, mid range is very clear, treble is balanced, i have my bass on +1, mid range on +1, treble on +2 and i am very impressed.

The VX04 speaker adaptors fit the fronts of the hawkeye nearly spot on and i was told to use VX01's for the rear, but they do not fit at all, so i have bought the ones in the post above from fleabay.

Have no idea if these adaptors will fit in any other scoobie

Did you buy the head unit from that site as well? Was it you that wrote the 2007 Impreza review?
Reason i'm asking is because the review says the head unit alone made the standard speakers sound a lot better? If it was you then why have you now changed those too?
I'd like to sort the stereo out on mine and that's not too pricey.

No it was not me Officer it's not my review, i bought my HU from play.com, i have only bought the T-rex speakers from the Car Audio Centre, these were to replace the In-phase SXT speakers i bought from Amazon a week before.

Oh and btw don't rely solely on the reviews from the Car Audio Centre as they only publish the good reviews.

Whilst not wishing to disparage GB270Gaz, I would urge anyone buying speakers to HEAR them first. If you can't, be VERY careful.

Speakers are VERY subjective: one man's perfect is another man's nightmare. Trust me.

I was told about all these amazing speakers by folk on here, went out and blind tested them, hated them all, ended up with Sony 3-way ones.

I've just bought an active underseat sub for them after 6 years, since I have started to use the fronts more than the rears, so they need a bit of help with the bass.

Even though i am a bit of an audiophile having owned Cyrus & Bowers and wilkins to name a few, i am not easily pleased when it comes to audio, but having said that alcazar is right, i know i have very good taste when it comes to audio but it is my taste and some people might not hear what i hear.

And the HU and speakers do not compare one bit to a quality home audio system, but for a cheap £350 car system it is very good value for money, and considering the speakers are being driven by the HU amp only they are performing very well, but if you require more bass i would add a underseat sub.

This is only my opinion and if at all possible try and demo the speakers at a store to satisfy yourself.

Tom i would have bought the fronts speaker adaptors from the same ebay seller that i bought the rear adaptors from but i had already got the VX04's and fitted them and they do fit OK but as i said earlier you have to drill one hole to secure them.

Here is the ebay link for the front speaker adaptors from the same seller who i bought the rear speaker adaptors from and if i had this info in the beginning i would have bought both front and rear adaptors from him http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...#ht_1178wt_907

Whilst I totally understand and agree in principle with what you say surely the installation counts for quite a bit of the sound quality and speakers in a wall in a shop driven by a different source surely will not be the same as in my car with my headunit.

Hi all. I am thinking of upgrading the speakers in my Hawkeye and reading the above posts I just wondered with the spacers fitted, do you need to trim or cut the doorcards?
