ok i have £500 to splash out on a ice system, i really want to upgrade to a cdplayer, that loks flash and sounds flash, meaning that i will then need some speakers to overcome the noise of the exhaust on the motorway.
MAYBE i would like a sub-woo-ver in the back as my car as its an 5door.

think of getting an amp sometime in that budget if you can, could probably do:

605 speakers £120 ish
Radio/CD changer £180 ish
Amp £200

Then you need to add cables, fuses and fitting.

Paid £105 from bass junkies.com for the 605cs and a sub, you must. A cheap and nasty amp and sub will transform the ****e OEM ICE. Bass junkies will be able to help with that.

I got a Sony Cd player with a six disk Minidisc player in the glove box, nice fitted with a mobile phone kit for £400. Mutes stereo when taking on calls, etc.

The 605s are running off the head unit at the moment and are under driven, so I need a amp for them.

Hope this helps.

Cheers Phill C

PS Don't bother with rear speakers, not worth it IMHO.

Consider also running the 605 speakers off a powerful amp and you may find you do not want/need a sub. Personal preference, but that's what I'd do if I had a 5dr. As it is I have a sub in my 4dr

They are cheap, fit easily and sound good. If the guy's budget is £500 I don't think there is a better speaker if he still wants an amp.

In a car I am of the belief that it is not worth going too far given it is a bit of a rubbish acoustic environment.

Better spend the cash on engine/brake/susp mods me thinks.

john banks,

Totally agree mate, not the same enviroment is it. Got a full on Mission speaker system in my front room with a REL sub. Guy next door has come around and asked me to turn it down, his pictures were falling off the wall.

Everyone else,

The 605s are nice speakers, no experience of amping them, but will soon. Hello, do I need to explain the benefits of a sub ?

Had a cheap and nasty amp, sub and box for a few months.....Don't knock it. Try it!!

Cheers Phill C

Phill - amping those 605's is urgent. When you come up I promise not to play you Michael Jackson through mine amped up the the teeth. Unless you ask nicely

im glad to hear the 605's get such a good write up from you all cos i was told they are p**h, from a diamond audio fan.
sadly, i am sticking to my boy racer mods and all the sensible stuff ie brakes, suspension will just have to wait!!!

I have three MOS album and only one MJ album. It was 605CS you heard in my car Barry. Did you really think the imaging and detail were that rubbish - were you just being polite? Trust what you think yourself not someone who wants to shift you £400 of speakers....
