Help locating elec ariel output on Sony XR-C5100R for powering my amp...?!
#1
Hope someone can help...
Ive misplaced the installation instructions for my Sony XR-C5100R (same as 6100R I think) and now ive installed an amp i need to locate the electric ariel sense wire to remote power the amp on. Anyone either have a copy of the install guide and cabling diagram or know if Sony always use the same coloured cable or same position on the DIN connector...
Any other info on how I might locate the correct cable or remote switch the amp greatly received...
Cheers, J

First of all you don't want the electric aerial wire, you want the amp remote wire. They are two different things, on most units the electric aerial wire is only live when the RADIO is on.
Sony used two different methods.
Some have the amp remote wire in the loom and some don't.
If it's in the loom the amp remote will be the blue wire with a white tracer.
If it's not there, there should be a small square socket with 2 pins in it on the back of the unit. The plug 4 that socket contains the amp remote cable and some contain the telephone mute wire too.

Cheers Audio g man!
Agree with what you say about finding the correct wire but when you say 'Radio on', isnt this the same as head unit on and thus the same thing as remote?
Following on from what youve said I found 2 (full) blue wires on the back of the headunit and one of them becomes blue / white when it joins the car loom but also found the small two pin square connection socket you mention.
I quite like the idea of using the small connector instead of cutting the looms about, where can I get hold of one of these cables / connectors and anyone know which pin is the amp remote?
Jon.

Alright jon
The blue electric aerial wire is only live when the radio is on and dead when the cd or tape is on.
Ignor the cars own wiring, you need the blue wire with a white tracer thats in the Sony's loom if it's there.
There may also be a light blue wire which is the mobile telephone mute.
If it's not there then you'll need a plug for the small 2 pin socket which contains the amp remote wire and sometimes the tel. mute wire.
If you do need the small plug, let me know and i'll post one to you as i have plenty of them. Send me a SAE.

Ive had the unit out and located a cable with the connector (proper sony job with wording on the tails) and cabled it all up and it works a treat!
Thanks for all your help with this, Jon.
