Alpine CDA-7842 R any good?
#1
Hi,
Someone is offering an Alpine CDA-7842 R for around a 100. I wonder if it is any good, and if anyone has any specs/piccys of it.
Another thing is that it has a single slot CD but the cd bit no longer works. The cd spins and appears to play as usual but produces no sound. Any ideas on what it might be?
I currently have a sony head unit and changer which is a fairly cheap system, ie 300 all in when it was new. Would I notice any difference in quality going through OEM speakers.
There you go, just a few questions
Cheers for any help.

Sounds a bit expensive to me for a unit that doesn't work...
If the CD isn't working but other components are, it isn't something simple on the amplification stage. I'd be tempted to say that it's either stunningly simple, like a loose connection from the decoder chip to the amp inputs, or something like a new decoder chip...
50 quid would seem fair for a unit that is a half decent tuner and a cd-changer controller, but I'd personally not bother as there's better deals to be had.

Hi,
I wasn't really thinking 100, more the 50 pounds you mentioned. It was just something I found whilst a work, and the idea of improving my system bit by bit seemed like a nice idea.
Also would I NEED an amp to go with it?
Perhaps I will stick with my current system for a while then, and save up for something decent in the future.
Cheers
