Question DIN or double DIN??

Since I blew up my OEM head unit I’m considering upgrading to a reasonable aftermarket receiver. I’ve no problem picking a unit that has the right feature mix but one of the decisions I’m struggling with is to purchase a DIN or 2 DIN size unit. For instance these two Kenwood units appear to be 98% the same as far as features and capability goes…
DIN
Kenwood Electronics UK Ltd. | Receivers > KDC-W7544U
2 DIN
Kenwood Electronics UK Ltd. | Receivers > DPX503U

I can see obvious benefits from double DIN such as real estate on the front panel allowing the inclusion of buttons such a programmable stations and aux inputs.

And I can see problems associated with installing a single DIN unit to the Impreza including trying to get forester pockets to fit the gap – cutting drilling etc -according to some posts on here.

What are your opinions guys – DIN or double DIN replacement unit?

The benefits of a large screen for sat nav or DVD playing do not feature in my requirements.

Or you could try something different still and try for something like this,

Both above excellent suggestions and thanks for the source of the pocket. I think I'll do a single DIN unit with the pocket while I save for the PSI3.

STI Mav I like the boost guage too. Is it the Premium Boost Pack - Prosport Boost Gauge + Single Pod from Scoobyworld? Gauges & Pods : Premium Boost Pack - Prosport Boost Gauge + Single Pod

STI Mav you defo have something missing from your dash. Can't quite put my finger on it - your dash looks incomplete without it...its always present on mine...

LMAO - Yeah but that's on 3/4 of a tank and it's only done 58 miles

Boost gauge was ordered from Ebay and is indeed a Prosport job, pod did come from Scooby world - but it's all slightly cheaper if you order it this way. The pack from ScoobyWorld is a tad on the expensive side.

FYI - You can't buy PSI3 Monitors anymore, you have to get lucky and get them second hand, and to be honest they are as rare as rocking horse poo. But if you can find one - expect to pay around £200 for the VFD version or £250-300 for the graphical version. Not the cheapest of units, but they do a VERY good job of monitoring a number of things - well worth it imho.

Can't wait for the warmer weather to roll round now - so sick of it taking 15 mins for the damn car to warm up at 6.30am
