Default Double din stereo recommendations please

My 2004 STI has the original head unit in it- you struggle to hear anything from it once you get above 50mph!

As a Christmas present to me I was looking to replace it- I don't really need something with all the bells and whistles (I don't need Satnav and whilst nice playing DVDs isn't essential either).

I am really looking to buy something which looks right in the car, easy to use and will sound good when I upgrade the speakers at a later date.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Depends on your Budget but i had a Kenwood DDX7029 fitted to my old STi and it was a great piece of kit. It's no longer available but this is the 2009 model.

Vote 2 for the Kenwood, yes I know you said you didn't want Sat Nav but the speed camera alerts are more than useful! Mines the DNX5220BT same basic model but older the BT versions have Bluetooth hands free built in.

However getting the door speakers chnaged makes the biggest difference, I've got MDF/Glass fibre mounts in mine, fully dynamatted inner skin on the door and now run my front components off a JL audio amp.

I've just fitted a Pioneer AVH-P3100 in mine , can be had for under £300 PIONEER AVH-P3100DVD Double-DIN Multimedia Player

fits in well , quite easy to fit , plays just about everything including DVD's , will play and controll ipod with the optional lead . I went for the Bluetooth adaptor too so now my mobile works a treat in the car . I felt it was vey good value

Mmm I'm thinking about this too. The Pioneer looks good, however, with the Ipod cable and the BT adapter it then goes from £280 to £400. I wonder if you get more for your ££'s spending £400 on a unit with a built in BT adapter?

Ive put a Pioneer AVIC 900BT in my 2006 STi. Amazing unit! Sat Nav, DVD, CD and Ipod.

Also had upgradable firmware which improves the unit with ever update!

True, I did find my head unit from a dealer on ebay with the Ipod cable included in the price which helped a bit, delivered very quickly no problems , but I must agree the BT unit is a bit expensive , but works very well and links with the head unit well , so your numbers are stored in the head unit . Very impressed with the whole setup so far

OK - thanks for the update I think for me, considering the breast enhancements 'the Mistress' has had (READ: Engine upgrades the car has had) I probably need to spend no more than £300, that's why I'm not finding something I like as yet
