Default Classic speaker upgrade

Can someone please tell me how you remove the rear parcel shelf speakers? I want to upgrade them but leave the standard grills in place! Will 17cm speakers drop in without any cutting?
Thanks in advance

Hello mate. IIRC, the rear speakers either undo from the bottom, or, and I think this is it, you have to prize off the grilles, then undo the screws/bolts that hold them in place. It's so long since I did mine, I've forgotten which way it is, but reckon it's the second. It's NOT easy as the rear parcel shelf gets in the way of the screws, and you need a stubby screwdriver for the rear ones.

I replaced mine with 6x9's in home made spacers, covered with proper rear parcel shelf cloth from an ICE dealer, so can't say definitely if 17cm speakers will drop straight in, BUT, once you get the old ones out, you'll see there is a metal spacer making the hole the size it is, and IT unscrews with difficulty too. IIRC the ACTUAL hole in the rear parcel shelf is bigger, so you might get away with 17's.

Thanks mate, I was trying to remove the grills but they looked like they were about to snap! do they just pull off?
the speakers definitely screw from the top down so its not as if i can leave the grills in place!

I've fitted loads of sound systems but i want this looking stock, so don't wanna break the grills!

Right then I'll just go for it

anyone recommend a decent set of speakers? I'm not going with a sub so they should be able to cover the lower range well. Not 6x9's though

If you can get 6 inch speakers. They have to be exactly 6 inch though. They will drop straight in! I had a set in mine for a while. But then got boreed of them and fitted some 6x9's small amount of cutting and they look almost factory, apart from them being a little taller and having a kenwood badge. lol.
