Default Fitting of new DIN size stereo ?

Hi all, think I am going mad, removed my standard stereo (Bugeye impreza) and went to fit a single DIN size head unit and would not fit, ie DIN stereo is 180mm wide and standard slot in car is only 170mm wide . This happened to anyone else ? Do I need to trim the car or is there a way round it.

Just to add, my surround around the stereo / heater controls etc may have been changed from standard not sure as it has a carbon fiber style / effect.

My stereo is a bluapunkt and is 180mm wide, also checked an older sony stereo which is also 180mm wide. The slot in my scooby is only 170mm wide, if other peoples are fitting ok it must be my radio / heater control surround. It may have been fitted later as it has a carbon fiber effect style surround?

I have a stereo with a flip down front, they fit ok

I cant put the front stereo surround on it tho, else it doesnt fit, so i presume you'll need a flippy stereo
