Default advice needed please!!!

Ok,have looked at all of the various threads, some of which are a bit old,so i thought i'd post this question to see what the general concensus is...
I want a new HU to replace my factory unit for my bugeye.Dont fancy a double din for the security aspect,so my options are open and i need some advice.
Will have a budget of about £200-300 and would like to partially pay for some speakers with that money!I like the idea of a single din with one of the forester pockets. What are people fitting these days?.I need something that i can play my Samsung Q1 mp3 through,so i dont really need a cd player as such.Dont want to be fitting lots of components,so would definitely prefer a hu with in built amp.
Was thinking about an alpine 9887R ,pioneer deh700BT or such like.
As most hu these days are built with the i pod in mind, how are other mp3 layers fitted to these stereos???
Also, which companies are recommended to buy from at good prices-online or walk-in???
Cheers,in advance

I fitted an alpine x300 and that is superb, It works great with Ipod and usb, never tried on any other mp3 player though, for £200 I got the Head Unit and the Bluetooth adaptor so it works great with my phone. That would leave plenty for some speakers.

Personally I don't think you can go wrong with a Alpine headunit.

www.caraudiosecurity.co.uk is where I got mine from. Just a note: this company also trades on E-bay and Amazon and sometimes the prices are different for the same thing on the different sites. My Alpine headunit was £10 cheaper buying through Amazon than on their own website .

Going to see how compatible with my Mp3 it is and make my decision from there. The 9887 R is at the top of my list though-just a shame that most ice is 'built for i pod' although the high end alpine stuff seems ok for 'other' makes...

just like the sound of it technically there should be no differnce but there is do not know why. the preouts are only 2volt vs the 9887r which is 4 volt so it makes no sence what so ever. have measured the preouts and i am seeing 2v rms on my fluke so it has a good signal.
as i said personal preferance.

Alarmeng Im such a fist.Have changed my mind about six times now.But have now decided that this week i will mainly be buying....a double DIN,JVC KW-AVX810
Seriously looked at all of the Alpine options-9887R/104BTi etc etc but like the look of the JVC. Doing my final research and pricing and also looking at the speaker options
Fetler-your install with the pocket,looks
What speakers are people liking at the mo,for the front doors of a bugeye???
