Im about to the same, this is quoted from another post:
"Open your cup holder and use the space that gives you to pull on the top of the stereo surround/heater controls. You need to pull quite hard and this panel will just 'pop' off complete with the heater controls etc.
Now you need to undo the screws that hold the stereo bracket to the car, three each side and two below on a small supporting bar - use a very magnetic screwdriver or risk losing the screws!
The stereo should now come out complete with the brackets attached to the sides, remove the screws and replace the stereo with your new unit, and then refit. I'd suggest getting a loom adaptor so you don't need to cut the cars wiring - Subaru to ISO should do it although you may need to hack the adaptor about this is preferable to cutting the cars wiring."
I bought an iso loom adapter from ebay:

Hope this helps!

If you have a bugeye like me, i went to halfords and bought there screen mount aerial,
There is a convenient grounding point on the sunflap above the rear view mirror,
Run the other cable`s (Power & Aeial) down the passenger A-Pillar,
(remove glove-box) and run the cable alone the big metal bar that runs the length of the dash above the glovebox, and the cable drops nicely behind the radio!
Really good reception now :-)
Cost : £14.99
Hope this is of some help

It is a dark blue wire (I think), and should be connected to the stereo external amp wire - the one that turns on an external amplifier.

I have a bugeye wagon, and the aerial is powered from one of the cables in the loom - you just need to use a Halfords ISO converter. If you're fitting an Alpine then you will need a converter plug as well.
In a nutshell, here's what you need to do:
Open the cupholder, undo the 2 screws and remove.
Pull the silver surround out using your hand.
Remove the 6 screws holding the original crap unit in.
Unplug the old unit, and remove the black earth cable from the side of the cage.
Assuming you have a single din unit, you will also need a single din plastic pocket (or silver Forester pocket).
Screw the single din unit into the cage along with the single din pocket (if you use the Forester pocket you will need to drill the cage to fit.
Plug the ISO adapter into the Subaru plug and attach the aerial. Remember to plug the black earth cable back into the side of the cage.
Screw the unit back in with the original 6 screws (you may need to juggle it around a bit to get it to fit exactly, and if you are like me you will drop the bottom 2, never see them again and realise that they aren't needed.
Push the trim and cupholder back in.
Done!
Then you will need to replace the speakers, add an amplifier, and a sub...
