Default Kenwood DDX5022 gps antenna

Hi

New stereo arrived today, But the GPS antenna according to the manual should be mounted on a metal plate. Has anyone mounted one of these. I am looking at putting behind clock panel. Is it o.k to have the gps transmitter not on the dash but under i.e out of sight

Cheers

Fergin

Mines behind the clock panel and works fine, every now and then it takes a little bit longer to pick up a signal but were only talking seconds so not a problem
