Default No Sound through new Stereo

I've plugged my new stereo in today, and the CD plays etc, but there doesn't seem to be any sound! I've looked for a mute button incase it was this, but there isnt one.

In the OEM stereo, there were the big plug which I've used an adaptor for, then there was a 1 Pin Jack thing, then a small 2 pin plug. The 1 pin Jack thing seems to fit in two places on the stereo, so I tried them both.....but the small square plug doesnt seem to fit anywhere.

Any ideas? Other than i'm thick

Do you need to use all 3 connections?

I.e. The big ISO one, the small black 2 pin socket, and the 1 pin plug which looks like a jack?

Thanks

I presume this is the stereo that you have fitted?? The two large plugs that come from the wiring adaptor fit onto the plugs from the stereo, you cannot get them the wrong way around. One provides power(black plug on stereo) and the other(white plug on stereo) is the speaker output(more cables come from it) this one is probably unplugged.

The jack type plug you mention is probably the aerial cable, this plugs into the back of the stereo.

The other 2 plugs coming from the back of the radio are the RCA output(or AUX input), you will not use these unless you are using an amp or an aux input.

is there a setting in the menu for the internal amp?

my alpine had a 'ic power' 'on' 'off'. so if i turned it off i could use it with external amp's.

I've re-made the connections on the sony wiring harness as it was a bit messy, and I've tested the connections for continuity and everything is good!

I can't see of IC Power setting, or many settings to be honest. But.....it did come with a remote control, which may have more options on it??

Bud, it's a Sony CDX-F7700. So nothing special really. Not, running any amps or anything. Just a straight swap for the original stereo.

You can actually hear the beep of pressing buttons through the speakers, so there is some sound. But I think there may be something on the remote to press.....which is at home (im at work now).

Actually, this is the remote, but doesnt seem anything different to on the stereo. Thought there could have been something stupid like a mute button!

Have you got front AND rear speakers??, I'm wondering if your fader is set right over to REAR if you don't have rear speakers that is.

You may have to hold a button down to access the menu, then you may be able to switch the internal amp on, if this unit has that function.

Yeah, everything was all standard, and I've just attempted to change the OEM double din to this stereo. The balances etc are ok, thats something I could find! lol.
I think your right, about holding one of the buttons down....and there doesnt seem to be too many options to be honest.

Have a look HERE Online User Manual and Guide for Sony CDX-F7700 CD Player by FixYa, Page #1 there's loads of options.

It will take some trawling through though.

The mute button is the ATT one, but when you turn the volume up the ATT goes off. This unit also has a telephone mute cable, if this is connected down ro earth the unit will mute all sound until the connection is removed.

Oh right, that sounds like something......

When you first turn it on, it says ATT................ON, so that much be why there isnt any sound then! There isnt a button to press as such though, saying mute or ATT.

But, it doesnt remove this when you turn the volume up I cant see the telephone cable either, it just has the ISO cable in it, and the subaru areial (sp?) one.

Default RE; No Sound through new Stereo

from what you're saying i'm starting to think your head unit is faulty. the beep you mentioned acuallly comes from inside the head unit and not thru the speakers as you thought........... Here's a little test i want you to do. Power up your head unit, turn the volume up to midway, and leave it on for about half an hour. after slide the head unit out and touch the heat sink (the alloy part with the fins usually on the back or the side). if it's excessively hot, then your audio i.c is blown (a costly repair) failing that try pressing the reset button(usually behind the facia on sonys) that should set the head unit back to factory defaults. hope this helps.

Bud, there isn't any excessive heat to be honest, just warm. Also the beeps are definitely coming from the speakers! I got my girlfriend to check as well.

ATT is definitely turned on, as it says it on start up. But there isn't an ATT button. Pressing the reset doesn't help either unfortunately.

I'll check that link out cheers Dave.

Thanks guys, any more suggestions welcome

Just been out again for another peek.....

On the Sony wiring harness, it has a spare wire with ATT labelled on it. Could this have something to do with it??

That is the telephone mute cable, this mutes the stereo (attenuates it (ATT)), if this cable is connected to earth the stereo will be permanently muted, maybe there is a fault in this circuit. There MUST be a button on the stereo for the ATT, when you ATT the stereo normally it does NOT completely mute it, you have a very low volume normally around a tenth of previous volume. That is how my Kenwood unit works.

I am a member of Talk Audio, have been for around 6 years and yes it is a very good source of information.
