Hello there, need some help and advice, I have a problem where i need some bass, not the typical boy racer BOOM BOOM BOOM, just some to help.
I have a child so need room in the boot for buggy.

Which is the best way to do this. Was thinking maybe an 8 or 10 inch sub, and calculating the volume of a box for the size and trying to make something up with the same volume in size, hope this makes sense to people. any help would be great thanks

If space saving is a must then i would look at kicker solobaric subwoofers as they need only half the size box of normal subs. Pack a good punch and pound for pound really good for the money. As for only requiring enough bass to enrich the sound then thats easy, it means you just keep the bass frequencies from the head unit nice and low, no massive amp or 15" speaker. For what you need a 10 inch speaker will be more than enough, which means smaller box. another sub that will suffice would be jbl. Very cheap. Reasonably small box, for value for money really cant be beat.

You mention 8 inch subs, i really dont reccomend this size, yes the box will be small but it will really struggle with lower notes that wouldnt stress a 10 at all. 8`s are great for big door pods to give good mid bass but thats about all really. Been there and tried it. The only car ive seen where 8`s worked really well was an escort at doncaster many years ago and he needed about 20 of them

I use to work at a car audio shop and i recommend looking at a vibe box which has the amp built in and use a split connection block for the power wires so you can remove the box if needs be. they do them in either a 10" or 12" sub depending on the music you like. i gather you are just gonna run the door speakers off the head unit?

look at alpine head units far better than pioneer on sound quality and functions. w202 i think it is , is a double din head unit if you have a bug eye onwards or a d310 single din with a 7" flip screen ( the one i had )

for better sound and just replace standard speakers to run off head unit look at jl audio vr series comps or infinity speakers this way you can set up the system for a better sound as you might find that the door speakers will distort and get a clash of sound.

thats my view anyways.

I do have infinitys components in the front and orion components in the rear shelf. So just a sub now. Can't wait to have some proper sound in there.

I listen to garage and drum n bass mainly. What would I be looking for as in sub wise, size etc?

My boot install. MB Quart (can't remember the size ) in an enclosed box being driven by a Genesis sub amp. I know I'm biased but it sounds fantastic. I listen to mainly dance music and it sure packs a punch for its size . The other amp is driving my front (Focal) and rear (MB Quart) components.

for the music you listen to i would recommend the 12" version of the vibe box, i think its called a cbr 1000 or something sim. never had any probs with them and it will provide as much bass as you like.

like i said its all in one and if you get that connector its easy to remove when ya want. fit velcro to the bottom of it and that should stop it moving around

its not too bad size wise m8 less room than having a seperate sub box and amp rack. you'll be happy with the results.

Wolfie u Bling SLAG, i've always loved the genesis amps BTW....

Solobaric is definitely a very good sub, especially if you go for the L7 series squares they are equivelant to the next size up on a round sub, so a kicker 8" is equivelant to a 10", but will use less space than a round 8" due to the additional cone surface.

Vibe again are very good and the CBR 1000 series is sure good bang for buck....and those boxes sure do look a treat in the boot, just remember it's vibes boxes which make their subs sound good.

Either choice is a good choice, so good luck....

or if you rarely have anyone in the back other than the child do what i have done and build 2 8 inch subs in the rear footwell

the subs have a steel cover over them wth just the mat laid across them so people can put their feet on them with no danger of damaging them

Its built to the height of the transmission tunnel so doesnt compromise too much of the leg room so id say its about 8-10" high

The sound is amazing honestly the bass these small subs put out is phenominal and coupled up to Focal components in the front its a truly stunning combination.It really has to be heard to believe,much better than having subs in the boot IMO

for me if your wanting good bass but also to save space id recomend some amped up component speakers in the front doors and upgraded coxials in the rear doors i would say that would give you enuth bass and better sound quality than putting a sub in.especialy for having the child in the back of the car having bass pounding through its back from the boot

Its a tough call. I wouldn't use it when child is in the car, and it won't be some loud *** bass, just a compliment.
I might try and amp the rears then, as they are awesome.
So i'll give that a try then if no good then sub it up.

i managed to get 2 12'' speekers 2 amps a capasitor. still access the spear a
and still manage to put a full size buggy in the boot

i did have a pic somewhere.
i made a box to go right the way across, just before the spear. sat the amps in the midle of them but sitting on top of each other. carpeted the boot out with red & dark grey. the capasitor on one side. so i still have plenty of room for a buggy.

i also put some small 12v fans aboth both amps to keep them cool. all on rocker switches.

dont look to bad for a self build

the under seat subs are ok ive fitted a few and stuck one in a porsche 911 gt3 rs. they sounds ok and would be enough for you want but imo id always go for a sub and amp combo. the vibe i said about would give you a nice install and be removable if needed, i know from my car that i need as much boot space as poss when we put the buggy, shopping etc. Ive got a seat leon 07 reg at mo and that has a a big ish boot.

the guy running the twin 8" subs behind the front seat was a nice touch ( sorry i couldnt remember your name)

the other avantage is if you do a track day you wont have a heavy load in the boot you can just take it out blitz the car round the track and then put it back in.

when i get the new car im thinking of doin a install and this would be my set up

alpine w205 double din head unit with black bird sat nav ( it slots in the head unit) and it has ipod control, so i can stick my iphone in a control it from that like a ipod and fit my parrot hands free kit

jl audio xr 6.5" comps up front
jl xr 6" co ax in rear
jl audio hd 750/1 sub amp
jl audio hd 300/4 ( cant remember the model number doh)

the hd amps are the same size and small so easy to tuck away at the sides but give enough power.

and sub is a jl audio 12w6 or a 13w7 havent made up my mind. i dont plan on doin track days to often and the install will be very simple.

and a flip down screen with dvd built in for my daughter which i can control from the head unit.

he last car i had with install was my 206 gti 180

IT WAS A RUSH JOB FOR A SHOW the sub enclosure was gonna be painted the same colour as the car and different material used to trim it all. and the the sound system equipment was about 9 years old as it came from my nova
