Excellent advice Chiark, many thanks.

What is still giving me the ******* is how I run the cable from the back of the head unit without dismantling the facia and gear lever console! Will this be a no-brainer when I come to do it i.e. will it just drop through or is there some technique/skill required???

Cheers

Mike

I am about to make my first attempt at installing a CD autochanger in my scoob (MY00, 5dr).

I would appreciate any advice (in noddy stylee!! ) about how to install this under the front passenger seat and in particular where the cables should run and how to fit them i.e. what do I need to dismantle in order to fit them. Also, will I need to remove the front passenger seat.

Any pictures would help enormously.

I have been to Chiark's excellent site which has given me the basics but I now need a bit more technical detail !!

Many thanks

Mike

If you look at the back of the centre console, you'll see that you can get into it from the passenger footwell. Remove the radio and you'll be able to either fish for the cable by putting your hand in the orifice , or use a stiff piece of wire to feed through to the footwell, then tape your changer cable to it and pull through.

It's an easy job as you can get to the parts you need without dismantling anything.

No problems Mike, I'll try to feed any advice into the FAQ as that'll help most people...

Good luck - though it's an easy job so you won't need it!

Thumbs up

I swapped the std. Philips stuff for my Alpine stuff the other weekend.

I found if you open the little storage box between the seats, there are two gray 'caps'. Pull these off to reveal two screws. Undo these and the plastic beneath the handbrake with the mirror adjustment switches on will come out.

I tucked the cable to the changer along the left hang edge underneath to avoid it tangling in the seat runners.

I can take a photo if you want?

Edit - I will probably do mine again though with the seat out as the changer isn't screwed in that well but no skipping problems so far.

ChrisB.

Chiark,

Can't believe you haven't got a section on Amp installs and running cables ;^)
