Is everything ICE-wise so hard???
Why is fitting speakers in a classic so damn difficult!
I took out the original ones and bought some Alpine coaxials thinking they would fit straight in - big mistake. The Impreza (mine at least) had 6 inch speakers in the front doors and the ones I bought were 6.5 inch - so were miles out. After making some adapters from 12mm plywood and putting it all back together I found that the door card rattled like mad!
So off it all came yet again and I found the plywood had gone mouldy - out came the speakers and adapters. I found out by chance that Vauxhall Corsa (00-07) speaker adapters fitted nicely for the 6.5 inch Alpines. I then sound deadened both doors and trims with Second Skin stuff. Put all back together yet again and they work beautifully.
With the fronts done I thought I would attempt the speakers on the rear deck/parcel shelf area. When I got the car it had Sony X-plod 6x9's in place but these weren't fastened in properly, so I got a lot of vibrations from these too. I will be replacing these with Alpine 6x9's but at the minute they will not fit as the basket of the speaker is wider.
So, until my speaker rings arrive from Ebay - hopefully this week - I am stuck.
Was just wondering though, has anyone else had this sort of problem with fitting 6x9's at the back? And also, what size speakers would the car have come with from standard?
