they are configured with different resistance values so that you can put various amounts of speakers in the car.
A D2 Sub will show a 4 Ohm (if run in series) load across the terminals of an amp which will mean the amp see's 2 Ohms if it is bridged (across 2 channels) - which is the point that most amps can safely run
If you put the D4 Sub in the same position as the previous D2 Sub on the same amp then the amp will see 4 Ohms when bridged, so if the amp is stable at 2 Ohms, you could run x 2 D4 Ohm Subs off the same amp.
The amp will split the power though between both Sub's, so while the D2 amp would have been getting 100 watts, the 2 D4 Subs will only get 50 w each, so the reality is, for it to be twice as loud, you also need twice the power.

D2 would be better, run it in series and it will sit on the amp at 4 ohms (even though the amp will see 2 ohms per channel used) which is what the amp will take on a bridged load for 200 wrms
If you put the D4 speaker on it you will see 8 ohms in series which means the amp will only put out 100 wrms and if you run it in parallel you will be showing the amp a 2 ohm load, but the amp will only see 1 ohm because the 2 ohms is split between the 2 channels and it may not/probably won't like it (not many amps will run 1 ohm stable, beit bridged or not) it won't give you anymore power running it like that either just make it run real hot and it may (probably will) thermal out if you run it hard
Does that all make sense
