Hello I need some advise..I have a brand new WRX and want to upgrade the ICE on it and am looking at the following set up. I will power the Sub with the Amp, but am thinking of letting the head power the other speakers..Is this a problem or a disadvantage, any advise greatly appreciated. Also, would you replace any of the following as i dont want to spend money where i dont have to:

Head : KENWOOD DDX 7029 or JVC KW-AVX800
Fronts: Infinity-Reference 6520scs - 16.5cm Shallow mount components
Backs : Infinity-Reference 6522si - 16.5cm Shallow mount speakers
Sub : Infinity Reference 1250W 12" or JBL GT4-10 10"
Amp : Infinity Ref1600a mono or JBL GTO-75.2

Also as i have never played with cars before, should i get it all professionally installed and how much should i look to pay to install the above?
So in summary:

1. Any probs with the above choices?
2. Would i need to change the car speaker wiring in an 07 impreza?
3. Is it ok to power the sub from the amp, and the rest from the head?
4. All in installation cost and should i go professional?
5. Will this sound good or is it a waste of money?

Thanks in advance, Ronan

1. go for smalller speakers in the back or you will need to cut the doors. i think 5.5 inch will fit with spacers.
2. not essential, and if you power everything from the amp then you wont need to.
3. not an expert but would have thought you should power everything from the amp so you can control frequency roll-off etc. properly.
4. this is a lot of work so unless you know what you are doing you will run into a lot of issues. if you have the time and enjoy it go for it, although it will eat up a few weekends! i'm no expert but find it fun to do the work myself. think you would pay a few hundred to get it fitted (in London) but worth it if they are good. I would go to a specialist, not halfords though.
5. should be good!

very important point - read the faq it's very useful and wil save you time and money! cant stress this enough

Thanks for the reply, just going through the FAQs now and some great guides there, but i wish NORTHDOWNSSCOOBY (Rich) would have posted the speaker sizes rather than just a ruler (as i cant count to 20)!!

You can run all speakers from the HU if its a decent one and has good outputs.
You also need to make sure your HU has preouts which will allow the amp to run.
To get the best sound quality i would spend and extra few quid and get a 2 channel amp to run your components as this is gonna be the sound quality you hear most.
It is alos worth spending extra and getting some soundeadening in your boot and doors as this will improve the overall sound quality.
I would recommend having someone who knows what they are doing install it otherwise you may end up with a smoldering mess of a motor.

Forgot to ask - do you mean the really new, 5 door, hatchback WRX? If so this might be different, I've not seen information so it may be that this model is different to the 'hawkeye' saloon/wagon it has replaced.

Yes they are good but didn't stock the JVC I wanted to I went to New Image HiFi in Harrow instead.

Thames Car Radio in Egham is well worth a visit, but a bit more pricey.

I'd stick with 4" speakers in the rear doors to avoid cutting (they were 4" in my 03 WRX) also consider an under-seat sub like this http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...cts_id/33.html

If you prefer a boot sub a 4 channel amp with 2 channels bridged for the sub and 2 for the fronts would give plenty of power & control but you would need about 75wpc.

Thanks for all the replys and advise so far, i got this quoted from caraudio:

Kenwood DDX-7029 + KCA IP200 + KCA BT100 £520
Infinity-Reference 6520scs - 16.5cm Shallow mount components £80
Infinity: Reference 4022i - 10cm speakers £55
Directed Electronics: D2205 - 5 Channel Amplifier £220
Infinity: Reference 1250W - 12" subwoofer with box £65
Amp Wiring £30
Speaker Wire £20
RCA Cables x2 £20
Fitting – 2 days £350

So the bones of £1350 fitted for all that kit, value for money?

As someone mentioned above, sound deadening on this setup is essential so make sure this is included. It will sound 10 times better than current setup.

I don't think you are being ripped off if they do the job well. You may be able to get the bits cheaper and fit it yourself but if they seem like a good bunch go for it.
