Question Kenwood CD changer for MY06 OEM headunit

Anybody know the model number of the 6 disc changer that the main dealers offer for the very reasonable cost of £230 The pic on subaru's website looks like the C469.

I have heard some Kenwood units don't work with the OEM unit so don't want to buy something that doesn't work.... or has anybody else fitted a changer to the HU shown in the FAQ, have searched but not found any model numbers

Cheers,

Tony.

Do you know if the headunit is the same as the blobeye model, if it is then all the kenwood CD changers should work, i had the 10 disc MP3 CD changer connected to mine and it worked fine

Yep, should be the same. I read some didn't work.... but may just try a cheap one from ebay at first to be sure.

Cheers,

Tony.

If you are going to spend upwards of £200 why don't you get an Ipod and a kenwood connecting lead which will plug straight into the back of the headunit you have, that way you could get more music onto it and its portable! My Ipod is one of the best and most used things I have.

Tony,

I had a genuine kenwood 6 disc changer which I connected to the OEM unit.
That didn't work.

Got a kenwood 10 disc changer for a really good price which works ok.

Cheers guys...

Looks like after swapping back to the OEM headunit for the stealth look i'm going to sod it and go for something like a Kenwood W7537U headunit with bluetooth, USB and Ipod control. By the time i've bough a CD changer and Parrot/bluetouch unit for the OEM HU i'm way out of pocket compared the the 7537 (£190 inc the BT100 bluetooth adaptor and iP200 high speed iPod lead... bargain).

How is it possible to connect an Ipod to the stock headunit?
I would like to do that to avoid changing HU.
Thanks

You can use Kenwoods ipod interface, the KCA-iP500. Plugs into the CD changer port. As such it's not high speed and be a pain if you have a large selection on your ipod (fine for Nano size collections). I had one on my old Kenwood headunit before switching back to the OEM unit.

It won't display all the track names etc on the HU and the playlists etc can be a tricky to get used to but it works ok. Personally unless you can get an iP500 very cheap i'd look elsewhere.

Thanks Tony.
The KCA-iP500 costs $50 in US!
I need to find out how much it costs in europe though.

You can get it for just under £30 plus postage, think rrp is £50 but eBay is full of them 'buy it now' from retailers.

That's great, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
One more question: how do you select between the ipod and CD? There is no AUX in the headunit as far as I can see (the same also applies when you connect a CD changer, how do you select it?)
