Default an iPod idea

I want to get an ipod Alpine HU and I was thinking instead of running the ipod cable into the glove box, why not run it to the arm rest centre console?

Cool. I would be very intrested in seeing the pics.

My idea was to use the fold out Macy'Ds cup milkshake holder and cut some thind wood to shape, cover with some soft fabric, thenn stick in place.

there are loads of ipod docks out there - one, which is made for buildings (and i can't remember who makes them), should fit direcly into the space the rear passengers see on the back of the armrest. not ideal obviously, but top mount would probably look pretty good. nice and easy to hide the cables too!

I've got the Alpine iDA-X001 with the Ipod cable running into the arm rest console. Keeps it out of the way and to easily to hand if needed..

alpine x001 is a whopper set, i run one myself, lead in the glove box.

I had a kenwood ddx7200 in my integra and had the lead in the centre console, so i`ll probably relocate the alpine one at some point.

the alpine sadly is slower than the kenwood, but still a bloody good unit

I look forward to seeing the pics... picking a new Scooby on Wednesday after foolishly trading my old one in a few months ago. Have a Dension unit that was in the old car and has a decent holder for the iPod so was thinking of mounting it to the bottom of the centre console lid and then running the cable back up to the HU - would keep it out of the way and stop it moving around.

Am planning to drill a small hole and running the cable through that with a gromet round to tidy things up a bit and then on up the centre console to the HU - haven't examined it in too much detail but it should work.

I am going to fit my Apline CDA 9883R at the weekend along with the optional ipod cable and run it to the centre console.

What I want to know is how do I get the cable out from behind the HU and to the centre console? Once I have got it to the centre console, do I just trill a large enough hole for the cable to go through? What to the two screws do inside the console?

cheers

Darren

You need to lift the centre console up so you can run the cable underneath. I believe the screws will probably hold the centre console down.

Has anyone got any other examples of Ipod mounts? I got a touch a while ago and i need to mount it in the car but prefrebly on the dash but able to connect to my Kenwood HU?

Look forward to seeing the pics.

RB5286,
I know you have had experience of Kenwood DVD Head units. If you run an ipod with video capability can does the video get displayed on the HU? Just thinking of upgrading if it does.

Chriswsti05,
What is the kenwood unit above your ipod?

Here you go...

Had to drill a few holes to get the cable in.

and the ipod resting on the cup holder which I am going to make a floor and cover it in thin foam/material for the ipod to rest on.

Now I can take my music every where I go :
