Hi folks, I've got a 2001 UK subaru with a Kenwood headunit. Want to add a changer and change the speakers. Does anybody know if that headunit drives any kenwood changers and what the speaker sizes are in the impreza.

All advice gratefully received

Do you know the model of the Kenwood head unit? Does it say somewhere on the front of it?

If you're talking about an MY01 double din unit, I ran a 6 disk cd changer (not sure of model, but came with KRC579 purchased 2001) plugged straight in back with no probs.

Now changed headunit out to single din kenwood.

The Std double din is a re-branded Kenwood unit. You can use a standard Kenwood Changer.

I changed my front speakers for 6.5 inch speakers - try infinity, Boston and MB quarts to start with - figure on component speakers (tweeter, main speaker and crossover) for £150 plus to hear major improvements (std speakers are awefull!!). Spend lots on the front and forget the rears as they do nothing to improve the sound from where you sit! You may need a spacer to get them to fit snugly.

BUT

Std head unit is crap and not very powerfull. I'd save money on the changer and buy a new head unit altogther - get one with 2+ RCA outputs and you can then put an amp and sub in the boot at a later date. You'll then really hear the benefit of those new front speakers.
