Yes and Yes

Although I'd go for the proper PS2 convertor and not the power transformer.
No point in going from 12volt to 240volt only to go back to 8 volt. Think its about 25 quid and the slim line one fits perfectly in the glove box.

Just a small hole in the back to run the cable up and hey presto.

URM I DID THIS AGES AGO, ALL U NEED IS ONE OF THOSE CONVERTORS FROM MOTORWORLD, ABOUT £40 I THINK, THEN LINK TO YOUR BATTERY AND PLUG IN THE PS AS NORMAL

I went for a slightly different approach. Not a PS2, but a full blown Pc.

A small illustration to show other mounting options for your hardware.

7" Touch Screen

Boot Mount (before all cables were tidied)

Hope this helps and gives a few ideas.

judging by the position of the power cable running from my battery to my boot (and from previous experience on other cars), there will be a grommit in a hole through the bulkhead on the engine bay side of the vicinity of the glove box (or thereabouts). cable pops through there alongside other cables passing through that position

i don;t know for sure that there's a grommit - that is just an assumption. i'll have a good look under my bonnet next time i'm with the car in daylight and let you know what i see.
i expect you may have to remove the glovebox though - again i don;t know for sure, but would expect there'll be a few screws inside which enable you to drop the whole of the glovebox down from the dash

you could always wire it to the live of the stereo or ciggie lighter and then earth it to the bodywork.

As richardg says there is a grommet and your best bet is with a coat hanger from the glove box side. Simply remove the pull down part (i have a bug eye 2001) and undo the screws to remove the unit. then with a torch you'll see where the wires come through the car.
GENTLY push the hanger through and then tape the wire to the protusion in the engine bay and GENTLY pull it back through.

It's NOT a ten minute job though and you'll probably lose the wire at least once!!!!! ( i did)

Best of lusck and keep us posted

Dave

Nice !!

Seem to recognise that compass in the centre .

I guess you are also running Road Runner, that skin was designed by a mate of mine (CDRSkull), thus my compass design in the middle.

Have you seen the mobile phone software he also does. Allows bluetooth connection to your mobile, but youo use the pc to pickup and make calls. I can send you a screen shot if you like.

hello, bringing this back up now, just won a 2nd hand slimline ps2, (no wires whatsoever. ) might use the AV ones thats gathering dust for my fat ps2 at home.
however can i use this for power?

New Sony PS2 In Car Charger Adapter PSU Power Supply on eBay, also Other PS2 Accessories, Sony PS2, Accessories, Video Games (end time 29-Dec-07 23:45:00 GMT)

and is it possible to hardwire it?

and a naughty question.. is there a solderless chip for it?
