Default Double DIN upgrades question

Hello!

A question for anyone who has upgraded their new-age impreza with a double-din head unit - did it fit perfectly in the existing brackets and the fascia or was any adjustment or trimming required?

Thanks
Gary

Thumbs up

hi mate,
been doing a bit of research into this myself this weekend, best unit to go for, how they fit, ect ect, have a look here :- https://www.scoobynet.com/ice-2/5707...head-unit.html
kenwood's fit perfectly but some people say you have to elongate the holes slightly on the dash to get a true flush fit, but i will find out next weekend, just ordered a kenwood 7029, looks like best unit for the money

Kenwood 6029 fits exactly no mods required.

Great guide here to removing the facia and getting at the cage.

I'm thinking of buying this one:

Car Audio Direct - The UK's leading car audio and stereo resource. JVC KW-AVX800 - JVC JVC-KWAVX800

...as I already have the JVC KD-AVX2 which is a superb unit but it is a single DIN (and a bit) unit and it looks messy as I had to hack the brackets and the pocket to get it installed.

I also have a centre speaker and under-seat sub so I can play DVD-Audio discs in 5.1 and I don't think the Kenwood supports that feature.

I've got a Kenwood DDX 7025 fitted in my 06STi and it was also fitted in my old 01WRX, and it fitted easily using the brackets from the OEM head unit on both cars

I have the Kenwood bluetooth KCA-BT100 connected via the Kenwood DPX701U unit.

Sorry havent got any pics of it working.
You can control autoanswer on/off. If on how long before answer.
I have it turned off.

I answer it from the headunit, to cut a call off I press/hold ATT.

I don't have numbers transferred to it at present so at the moment it just beeps and says call.
My previous phone could'nt transmit to it, but got a sony ericsson W850i recently which apparently can.
I've been having trouble with it recently, but the installers have said the fault is with my phone. This also seems to be true as I can use my son's phone and connect perfectly.

My sony ericsson just wont pair with it for some reason.
Looking into this further it seems that my phone will only interface with the laptops in work which have bluetooth, and will not see other phones?
Complete off subject I know..............

Shaun

Cheers mate, do you get a screen up on the headunit to dial numbers, like a phone keypad or anything, can you dial from that?

yeah there are a lot of bluetooth sync issues these days, I think as the link gets more secure, more trouble will be encountered.

You can use the head unit remote to dial.
Or Use the phone to dial
Or Use the head unit to dial from either the phonebook or from a recent calls list

Hi JH,

Fitted the 7200 to my 03 last weekend. Takes a bit to get used to the menus which have a few usability quirks but overall very impressed with it. Looks like we both have to do the hole elongation thing if we want a flush fit

I elongated the mounting holes to get the 7200 fit a bit more flush, also have the bluetooth kit and it works fine

I put my JVC KW-AVX800 in last week,

I had to elongate the holes on the mounting brackets by about 2mm as the tilting faceplate was catching on the bottom of the hole in the dash.

The sound is absolutely fantastic, especially in 5.1 using DVD-Audio.

Looks good I've got the BT kit too, plus the TMC10 traffic unit (which I was grateful for on the way back from Reading on Friday, M40 was gridlocked near Oxford, but it knew as soon as I set out and sailed passed it).

I use an 8Gb Nano2 at the moment which works very well. See you have a HDD on the USB port. What did you use and how well does it work?

Been looking into what USB drives this unit could take. 2.5" in an external case, probably 5400rpm to keep the heat and power drain down, but which one? Have a 40Gb I'll try later.

My 7200 has just arrived so about to collect it and get it fitted asap. Just need some help on how the heck the facia on the 07 model comes out. My 02 was easy, taking out the cup holder, but now im a bit lost lol.
Cant wait to get it in there, was a totally "accidental" buy.

NGX, how much was the TMC10, got anymore info on it, running costs etc if there are any.

Try this link ehgp publishing ltd private pages it was in the FAQ (Read this section first) section of the ICE forum, AFAIK the centre facia is the same on the 07 as the 06 & 05 models, and its a hell of a lot easier to remove than the centre facia on the 01 thru 04 models

Not got the TMC yet, so gonna have to take it all apart again when that comes

Does it have the same screen tilt angle options as the AVX2 etc? I have one on it's way from Hong Kong so will find out myself soon enough. I also hope that I can do a decent flush fit job like I also did the the AVX2 as tbh I am not liking what I am seeing in all the pics above. I hated dremeling the centre console when it was just for a single din unit lol. Being so **** can be a real pain at times .

Also, you say 5.1, what centre speaker have you gone for and where did you fit it? I will prob just stick to 4.1 as I can't think of anywhere to fit it.

Cheers,

Nick.

Yes it has the same tilt options but I think the best option is to elongate the mounting holes in the brackets - i.e. where the brackets attach behind the dash. It only needs shifting up about 2-3mm. The head unit also sticks out about 5mm so the screw holes that attach the brackets to the head unit need to be elongated by about 5mm to make it sit flush with the dash.

The centre speaker I went for was the Clarion SRK602... fairly cheap from here - Low Cost Car Audio | Speakers | Clarion SRK602 - Centre Speaker with Amplifier

This thread has pics of the mounting for the centre speaker & sub...
