Following on from Chocolate O Brian's thread, I'm also looking to replace my speakers and again want to keep it simple.

My Impreza is a 2001 - what size are the speakers front and rear?

Ideally I'd like to simply replace the speakers front and rear, like for like (size). From what I've read, fitting 6x9's seems to be too much like hard work for me! If I kept the speakers the same size as the standard ones, will they be reasonable, or are they just not big enough to produce any real noise? Rather than struggling to fit 6x9's would it be a better option to fit a small but quality 8" or 10" sub in the boot? I could then run the rear speakers off the amp too for better sound.

Will I get any reasonable sound off the standard head unit, or should I replace it? Do I need to opt for a double din unit? If I didn't, do I just blank off the left over space?

So many questions I know. Basically I want to know the easiest (though not necessarily the cheapest) way of getting reasonbly good sounds.
