Default Alpine Ipod enabled HU

I've been thinking of changing my existing Alpine 9821 HU for one that I can connect to an Ipod. I know that I could use a FM modulator but would prefer to tuck the Ipod out of sight and be able to control from the HU itself.

The Glide Touch feature looks good but I really don't like flip face head units - it would have to be black/dark grey as the silver ones don't really go very well with the Classic dash.

Any recommendations & how do you control the Ipod without the glide touch feature?

Cheers

I went for the Alpine CDA-9853R & KCA-420ib from CEL Direct.

U select ipod using the souce button and then you can press a button to search. You use the glide touch to scroll through options to search by Artist, Albumn, Playlist etc.
You then use the fwd and bck buttons to skip through tracks.

Hope this helps.

Just bought a 9855r from Ebay..2 weeks old for £210

If you do go down the Ebay route, make sure you buy from the UK, and it has a valid reciept from a Alpine UK Dealer...otherwise the warranty is invalid..

ps: the ipod module costs near £50 new from Ebay shops also..

Apparently the latest Alpine HU models don't need an interface to link to an iPod, just a cable, and it allows full speed scrolling through tracks/albums/artists etc. (something which the older ones are cr@p at).

Not seen them myself though.

The CDE-9850Ri has just a cable that plugs into the Ipod. These are just hitting the market now.

Thanks for all of that.

Should I assume that any model without a visible CD slot has a motorised front panel that allows you to insert a CD?
I've never liked that kind of thing but I suppose that it is essential to get a screen big enough to operate the Ipod effectively.

Last question......! Does sound quality improve as you go up the Alpine range or is it just a case of the same basic engine and you are paying for additional features/functionality?

The 2006 models are now shown on the Alpine website www.alpine-europe.com and yes the front swings down allowing you to load your CD and you can adjust the angle of the front panel on 'swing front' models for best viewing.

Spec is ideal but shame about the colour.

I have an early WRX, I'm just not that fussy about what it looks like on the inside! When you find it for £190, it gets even better

cant you change the background colour onm that model - can on most of the new alpine units.

I might be able to arrange a group buy on these Alpine Units if we have enough interest. We have a trade account with an Alpine supplier.

No harm in opening a thread to see if there's any interest. I know I'd be keen

actually - just been on phone to them after i posted that and there aint a lot of meat in them price wise.

The company doing them at £190.00 is pretty much doing them at cost plus a few quid but they do seem to make money on the shipping at £10 inc vat.

is there any demand outside of us two?

If they produced a black one I'd have it. I think that it's only the colour of the buttons that you can change.

No good for me; I'd need a HU with amplification built-in...
