Default crossover on doorcard picture?

Hi folks,

I remember seeing a picture of a component install where the person had fitted their crossovers attached to the door card rather than the door itself. There was a picture of the install and I can't find it at the moment.

Anyone know where it is?

yes and some other tooser took simular advice and ended up with water damaged crossovers

not ALL crossovers will fit behind the door card, which one's have you got. My Rainbow crossovers wouldnt, Infinity no problems

my advice would be to bring the crossover back in the car, bit more fiddley and I would keep the cable as short as possible

I would also like to get more than one persons views rather than reading a FAQ

on my last install I also used Skins with the speakers ... they are brilliant stop the speakers getting water in

I put my crossovers on the door and then stretched the plastic cover over them

Errr, don't you need to put them in FRONT of the plastic to protect them from water damage?...

And here's my attempt

The crossover does need to be on the interior side of the plastic membrane (as pictured), as it's the other side that can get wet. To the chap who stretched his membrane over the crossover, I'd change it if I were you

Iain, that looks like a bracket made from a PC case blank. is it?

I actually used some self-tapping screws and bolted mine to the door in the same position as Iain.

How did you guess? I knew those old computer self-build spares would come in handy for something

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/pro...s_id/4396.html skinz - my speakers came with a 5 year warranty if I used them

just give it a check, its obvious when the water is getting at it, I got rid of the membrane in the end

Mine are fitted on the panel side just into the oblong shaped hole above the speaker.

They 'Were' Velcroed onto the back of the door panel, which not only held them, but allowed you do 'unpick' them when you removed the panel.

Iain, why have you got chrome handles???

Because that was what was on the car when I bought it. Had it from new (02 UK sti) so I presume it's a standard factory fit thing...

Default pink door card hooks

Anyone know the part number for the pink doo card parts seen below? My MY01 only has one! Not sure if it has fallen out.

Cheers

Also the plastic membrane... anyone know where I might find a replacement?

Did you make the MDF spacer yourself or are these standard ICE issue? (It looks very like the one by darms). I see there are 3 screws rather than four on it; where do these fit, or are they self tapping? Finally are they 60.5Cs speakers - mine are 56mm deep and I wonder if they need the spacer at all. I presume the 4 speaker screws feed through the spacer into the original screwholes?

Yes, I made it myself.

There were three screws on the original speakers. I just took the old speakers out, marked on the mdf where the holes should be, drilled them, and connected the mdf to the car using the same screw holes. I then just screwed the new speaker to the mdf using self tapping screws.

Yes, they are 605 cs. Without the spacer, the window will not wind down (the mechanism hits the magnet at the rear of the speaker).

Thanks Iain. Apparently a Corsa ring will fit my car, but not the earlier classics due to the slightly different shape of the door pockets. I expect the use of the door-handle tweeter position will compensate for the reportedly slightly bright nature of the speakers.

One final question - did you change the position of the tone contouring switch? I can't even prise open the crossovers, but might have another go if they definitely sound better switched!
