Newbie - Sub install

Ive got a Pioneer DEH-P835R CD head unit, and was going to fit a Kenwood KFCW303 12inch sub in the spare wheel area as another user has already done.
My only question is that being v.v.new to installing ICE I was wondering that because the head unit has a Subwoofer output on it (Single DIN socket, I think!), can I plug this directly into the sub, or do I need to go to a Amp first?.
