Unhappy Horrible Noise

Hello all,

I've just bought my first Scooby - a 01MY WRX - and one of the first things I've done to it is fit a new stereo. I've put in an Alpine 9831R in there, largely following instructions from this forum. I've also put in an old Rockford Fosgate amp from my last car (GTi-6), which is driving a sub and the front speakers.

I thought I'd finally got everything wired up properly, but when I turn the head unit on, a horrendous "THUNK!" noise comes through the front speakers. What on earth is that?? Can anyone suggest where I may have gone wrong?

Cheers,
Phil

There are no Girls Aloud albums anywhere near my car!

Also, it's a two channel amp. A mate at work has suggested that it could be because the amp is attached to the constant 12v wire and not the "remote switch-on" wire coming out of the head unit. I shall swap 'em and try that out tonight.
