Default Alpine SPS170A

Didn't take long to get fed up with poor quality of original ICE and so i'm going to replace my head unit with an Alpine 9847R. I have been advised to try Alpine SPS170A speakers in the front. Has anyone tried these and will they fit? I have a 03 STI and the speakers have a deapth of 56mm.

Many thanks.

Well no responces so I decided to brave it anyway. Fitted the Alpine SPS170A's today and what a difference. The sound is crisp and undistorted even though I have left the original tweeters in.

Thank you to all those who have posted advice on the fitment of replacement front speakers. Your advice saved me hours. The speakers are coxial and were a direct replacement. I used 18mm MDF as a spacer and have no clearance issues. If anyone is interested the Speakers were bought from www.pixmania.com for approx £45 (inc postage).

Just got a Alpine 9847R head unit from www.caraudiosecurity.com for £145 (inc postage). As it's a xmas present I'll have to wait a few days before fitment.
