Default Best way to fit speakers...?

Anyone got a good suggestion for fitting deep 6.5" speakers into the sockets on the front doors? MY00 UK Classic. Standard Subaru speakers totally suck!!
Took the door speakers from my old car (Deep 350W 6.5" Pyle speakers, 20oz magnet) but they won't fit in the Subaru holes. On measuring the Subaru speakers, discovered they're only 6", and not very deep. I've tried the places around here, but can only find 6.5" or 5.25" speakers (too big or too small). I have tried asking advice from the shop staff, but they've been basically unhelpful. So I'm sure a fellow Scooby-netter will have some useful ideas.....

You need to click on the link in the 3rd reply. THat gives you a complete list of installs with a section on front speakers.

There are only 15 posts in the FAQ; can't be too much to wade through, surely?...

Thanx, i tried this link, but all it really does is tell me how to take off the door card! I already know this. I need suggestions on how to make my speakers fit. He does suggest a slight mod for 6.5" (cutting the splash guard so the magnet will fit through) But my speakers are too big for the hole, the screw holes don't line up at all....

I have read a few other threads which mention using mdf spacers.....anyone know how deep i can go with spacing? My speakers measure: 165mm diameter; 70mm depth; 105mm magnet diameter. This is turning into a headache!!

They're really deep!

Looking at previous posts, apparently fitting Infinity 600CS with one 12mm MDF ring gives around 5mm clearance. These are 52mm deep, so take off 12mm (MDF) and add 5mm (clearance) and this suggests that there's roughly 45mm clearance between the door and the window.

I fitted 6500CS which are 62mm deep, and I had to use 2 x 12mm MDF rings to give necessary clearance.

Assuming my figure of 35mm is correct, then even with 2 x 12mm MDF you can only fit a 69mm deep loudspeaker absolute maximum, and that may well still rub the window when it's fully down.

Any more than 2 x 12mm MDF rings and you run the risk of the door card not fitting back on.

I fitted the Infinity 655CS speakers last weekend with 18mm deep MDF spacers - I think it's a bit tight but I've had no problems.

got the spacers from autoacoustics at www.stealthbox.co.uk

Thumbs up Spacers

All this talk about speakers has made me purchase a pair of infinity's 6510s today (replacement model for 6500s) + Halfords had in the their autoleads catalogue, specific spacers for an Impreza, so ordered them aswell (£13 for the spacers). Unfortunately couldn't make a note of the part no. as it was upside down. Lets hope they fit a MY05 (as the description had them down as 93->)

I think you may be out of luck with that spacer; if it's the same as the one Halfrauds ordered for me, it's only good for 130mm 'speakers...

Still, if that's so they'll take it back no worries.

But you'll stilll need to get/make some MDF spacers or similar

Angry Misleading Catalogue

The picture states 130mm, but the code list quotes 165mm. I'll have to give them a ring tomorrow.

Those spacers are useless, don't bother - they're too small for the speakers and too big for the car! Typical - I had to wait 3 weeks for Halfords to get mine in.

Thumbs up Thanks for the info

By the way, in some of the older posts there was mention of using a Corsa spacer from Autoleads, would that work? Or am I clutching at straws?

Also the depth of the speakers are 61mm. What size spacer would I need to ensure it fits correctly, and the window doesn't snag etc?

I've used Corsa spacers from Hellfrauds on my classic for 16.5" Focals.

Had to drill one hole just above the standard mounting hole at the top and with a bit of persuasion it all fitted together nicely.

My main problem is trying to stop the door card fouling the speaker rather than the speaker fouling the glass.

Default Spacers for Scoobys..

By the way I did find a manufacturer that supplies specific spacers for Subaru cars here:

https://w109.webminders.com/iaperfor...ctionNumber=71

But being in the USA the postage costs make them a bit expensive:

$56 including postage (about £31).

I like the idea of the Door Panel Extension Pins listed on that website. That should sort out the door card fouling the speaker. Good find that gazzared_typer.

My spacers have arrived:

Including all the screws and plastic plugs if the door cards don't fit properly after fitting the new speakers.

I know I'm a lazy so n so but then at least I cant muck it up.

They also come with pretty good instructions and there are further links and pictures on their site with a bit more info. if needed.

Hopefully the installation will start soon and the spacers actually fit
