Lost mask key, no problem ,sir!!!
Hi All,
Lost my mask key to my KDC8080R some months ago now, I was hoping and praying that I would never need it, but guess what happened Friday morning.
YEP, you got it, left the bloody car in 4th gear by accident, got in and tried to start it(idiot) and everything reset, clock, alarm sounded, and head unit sat there with TRASMIT 1 on the display
After alot of careful consideration of the fact that I was about to spend £400 on travellers cheques for my holidays in 2 weeks time, I came to the conclusion that another £300 for a new H/U would just not be on.
I just love this H/U and would'nt swap it for any of the new H/U's on the market now.
So not knowing if these unit could be decoded I gave a chap in the local area a ring Saturday morning, told him the model number and he said, to my amazment 'no problen, sir'. Went over to his house, removed the head unit, dis-assembled it, took it into his house for about 1 minute returned with the unit, plugged it in and worked fine.
I'm not sure how he did it and for that matter don't really want to know, he says I can disconnect the unit without the need for a mask key, he's overridden the security feature somehow.
He charged me £25, so I was happy to pay that instead of £300 for a new H/U, but has got me thinking if security feature on head units are all what there cracked up to be
