Default Which £60 Front Speakers for Classic?

Hi All

Currently have everything standard bar Panasonic CQRDP383N mp3/wma headunit. Not really interested in v high volume, but I'd like to drown out the exhaust a bit better and have it sounding slightly more hi-fi. Front speakers the way to go? MY95 classic wagon (with rears in the boot shelves not the doors).

Been looking in Halfords sale and I really like the sound of Infinity components, bit over budget at £70 for 6500cs plus I'd have to make MDF spacers as I understand it (where has that template gone that was in here a few months ago...?) 5000cs were £80 iirc and they didn't have any 6000cs. Should I compromise and go for Infinity coaxials - 6002i were £50 iirc - do these go in without spacers? Or would JBL components be better? GTO-506CE 13cm seem a bargain at £40+del from Car Audio Security, Halfords didn't have any JBL components for me to hear. I marginally preferred the infinity coaxials to JBL coaxials.

Any others I should be considering?

Cheers,

Ben

Get the half price halfords component set at 50 quid if you like Infinity. I find 'em a tad bright, but you can control them with the x-over.

Thanks for your reply chiark. The Infinitys for £50 are coaxials though, cheapest components were £70. What would you choose for the budget then? And what do you make the the JBL GTO-506CE if you've heard em? Is going down to 13cm a big sacrifice?

I thought I'd seen the components for 50 quid - sorry!

13cm is going to reduce the deep bass output, but not by a huge amount. Personally, I think it's worth the hassle to get the 6.5s in there, but going for a 5" isn't devastatingly bad. Hell, spending a fiver on a saisho special would be better than what's in at the moment

I've not heard the JBL, but in general they're still a "play music at you" speaker which is a little more relaxed than the infinity.

Cheers guys. Still pondering this, but leaning towards Infinity Ref as I like the sound and looks . Does anyone know if the 6" 6000CS go into a classic without spacers? How much difference would I notice between a 6.5" and a 6" set?

Also any views on JBL 6506CE? Can get them for £61 delivered new from Ebay, but I still haven't founda any JBL components to listen to. Also seen the 605CE for £59 delivered from Pixmania bizarely enough; would these drop in being a 6"? What's the difference between 05 and 06 JBL models, I presume the 06s are newer?

Still open to suggestions of others. I suppose it's hard for people to give subjective reviews unless they've tried numerous different speakers in the same car.

Cheers,

Ben
