Question Line Driver Install?!

Has anyone fitted a line driver to their car, to boost the signal?

The line driver I have says it should be installed as close to the headunit as possible? Surely if a set of RCA cables are 1 metre long then it wouldn't matter if the line diver was placed in the boot?!

What I would like to do is mount the line driver next to amp, take the RCA leads that are already there and plug those into the line driver and then feed another set of RCA cables to the amp (phew)! This would save having to take out the headunit and then find a place behind the dash to mount the line driver.

Help, I don't want the scoob going up in flames!

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?

I used to have a phoenix gold PLD1, the whole point is to boost the S/N Ratio so its harder to pick up interference, by running gains lower at the x/over /amps etc.

If you fit it in the boot then its pointless having it IMHO.

As David has stated... the line driver is to boost the signal from the head unit..

Its a pointless excercise if its in the boot as the signal could have be degraded along the run along of the car.
It only goes near the HU...nowhere else.

I have a Phoenix gold PLD1; how did you find it Dave, did it significantly boost the signal?

Thanks for the reply guys.

It will significantly boost the signal, yes. There's heated debate regularly on talkaudio.co.uk as to whether it actually helps to reduce noise at all... The argument normally goes that any decent install, no matter what the preout voltage, shouldn't have a significant noise floor if your earths are right, and cable runs are correct.

It's a bit like capacitors: you either believe, or don't believe.

BTW I dont use one..
I just keep the power, rca cables and speaker wire well apart.
IE power down passenger side, rca`s on the transmittion tunnel and speaker wire down drivers side.
Never had a problem on any installs I`ve done like that.

I must admit I bought it to erm.. push my amps a little..

I was running about 9 - 10v on my preouts as the Nakamichi has a 5v preout..

My plan was to extend the control cable for the D/A convertor and mount this next to the amps, but I never got around to it..

TBH.. I wish I bought a bass cube rather than the line driver
