Results of speaker baffle fitting
#2
John, most in-car speakers are designed to have a fair amount of air behind them.
The most important thing is that the door is deadened and sealed up so the air from the back of the speaker can't get round to the front and cancel out the sound.
If these baffles just cover up the back of the speaker then I'm not surprised that the midbass vanished - in effect you've strangled them!
You can put speakers into a box but if the box (or baffle in your case) is too small you loose the lower end response as a trade of for higher power handling further up the range - no such thing as a free lunch!!
Few speakers sound better boxed in the front and if your door is already sealed up, there's not much extra to be gained.
