Question Ford Focus - replacement head unit/fascia?

Can anyone give me some pointers/help about changing the standard radio cassette in a 1999 Ford Focus please? Car is my Mum’s and she’s decided she wants to be able to play CDs in the car.

She’s not bothered about having a multi-changer as she reckons she’d only play the occasional CD; but I guess it means binning the original radio and getting some sort of aftermarket fascia that holds a standard single DIN head unit?

The other thing is that the current radio has steering column controls that she’d like to keep - anyone know of an aftermarket radio/CD head unit that’s compatible with the Ford controls? I suppose an Autoleads adapter might exist?

All help appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve

Steve, you could buy her a Ford 6000 radio which will slot straight in. It gives a good sound (the Focus has actually the best in class sound system) and the steering controls will work still. It also only takes 30 seconds to swap them over.

May find one on Ebay or I can give you the number of a car radio supplier who can sort you one out at a good price.

If you must put a single DIN radio in you will need an adaptor and a wiring adaptor too (both from Autoleads).

Tizard, that's good stuff - thanks for the info.

If you could give me the supplier's number, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,
Steve

halfords do the adapter laeds and facia's from autoleads, most car audio shops may be able to help also. as far as I can remember, sony, jvc, alpine and kenwood all have adapters for the steering wheel controls (depending on model of stereo)
