Default Spare Wheel Removal and Recovery

Hi All,

As my current install removes my spre wheel, I am wondering about car recovery if I were to get a flat as checking the small print on the aa greenflag rac etc say they will charge you if you do not have servicable spare. Anybody have any experiences of this ? RAC say you are expemt if the car has been manufactured without provision for a spare..

You'd be charged, unless the recovery bod turned a blind eye to it...

What approach Subaru recovery would take I really don't know. I've not been carrying a jack for ages due to the install, but on the other hand if the roadside people don't have a better jack then I'm with the wrong roadside assist people

Woul you be charged if they just recovered your car but didn't fix it? it mentions they will charge you for a spare wheel but what if you said you didn't want one just need recovering? also what if your space saver does not fit over your brakes ?

I'm sure that an unsuitable or even no spare tyre is an MOT failure.

re MOT: if the spare tyre is there, it needs to be legal.

if it's not there, well, no worries. You do not have to carry a spare wheel for the MOT, but if you do, it must be road legal.

Nope... Some cars don't even come with a spare - my mum's clio 182 had a can of foamy stuff which apparently works quite well sometimes.

In the event of a rear end crash the spare wheel can cause ALOT of damage as I've had the experience off

I keep meaning to get a 'can of foamy stuff'. Negligible as it may be, its a bit off weight saving too

I think they call it tyre weld or something like that, i have seen it in halfrauds.

I know for a fact most modern MGs dont have a spare, just a can of this stuff, you can have a space saver wheel as a option. Quite a few cars like that now.
