i just got myself a '95 WRX import, and it has come with the most horific tape deck in the world. How do i go about removing it for my nice sony MP3 head unit i had in my last moter as i cant see any standerd clips or prongs to slide it forward like you get on most cars.
Any help would be MASSIVLY recived.

OK bud. memory rusty.
1. peel back gear gaitor and undo two front screws
2. pull out cup holder and remove two screws
3. twist off gear **** - takes ages
4. remove 2 screws at back of gaitor
5. pull off trim (unclips at back end)
6. remove four screws from square housing and pull out.
7. remove radio screws at either side and voila!
8. rebuild
piece of **** - just don't overtighten screws!

Stereo blocks cup holder - aaarrrggghhh!!!!
Hi, just bought myself a '93 WRX import and have a problem with the stereo too. When I bought the car the cup holder was sticking out and would not close because the surround for the Philips CD player was in the way. I've since pulled the stereo out and closed the cup holder flush (looks better), but obviously the stereo now prevents the use of the cup holder, which I'd like to have back.
Can you advise on how you got around this issue without removing the rectangular stereo trim etc.
I was thinking of installing an Alpine unit that I have, but think it will foul too and the lack of room for the unit's cage is a little concerning.
Any info, especially pics would be very very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
