distortion of treble - warbling
amped fronts..... kenwood 529 with jbl 16cm components, and amped rears, kenwood 7blah blah...jbl 6x9..
at a reasonable volume there is some very evident distortion in the treble....
Most evident when running the cd.... the "tape" seems to be able to run at far higher volumes without this little issue being apparent...
would a real crossover help here? to stop the bass drivers attempting to product the entire frequency range????
any thoughts??
regards
Mikey

Fault with the CD section of the head unit?I have a Kenwood 8080R it will not play a cd when the volume is turned up due to vibrations from the sub in the boot, very sensitive to road vibration as well. OR a dodgy CD, is the cd your playing a copy?
#A proper X-over would make a difference, but I feel this could be a faulty unit.

cheers...
i'm using a new 10 disc changer, but with a very old head unit.... I think maybe that could do with an upgrade too.

Mikey,
Have you tried high pass filtering the fronts - say at 80Hz? Most kenwood units can do this...
As you say, it could be the woofers drawing too much power leaving the tweeters a little lacking - but there's all sorts of things that it could be.
Are you using the proper x-overs for the speakers in question?
Cheers,
Nick.

I'm not using x-overs only using kit as supplied with the speakers (a simple capacitor on the woofer I think....)

thanks to those that replied...
I've been tweaking the gains today and have found they were both on max...
not too sensible, so I tried a few alternative settings and have now sorted a much better setting which I'm way happier with.
