I understand that the stereo in the Impreza puts out 4x35W
When I look around at other stereos to use as replacement I see that they are, say, 4x40 Watts - for example
Question? - will I blow the speakers out of the doors?????

no, I doubt it :O) it is very rare that
speakers actually blow, unless driven VERY
very hard. The usual cause of problems is
the amplifier distorting, this damages
speakers.
when I was really into real hi-fi a while
ago I had some really good 80W speakers and a good 160W amp that replaced an okish 40W amp.
With the big amp the speakers not only sounded much better but also could go significantly louder. Basically the big amp had room to breath whereas the small amp was easily on the limit.
with your new head unit the speakers will
be fine, up to a point. I would seriously
consider replacing the standard speakers
too...
