Question

Hi

Question for all the ICE experts.. Mate of mine is trying to improve the stereo in his Peugeot 306. The problem is that it comes with one of those custom fit radio/cassettes with the slanted sides which doesn't allow you to fit a standard head unit. Are there any adaptors available to allow you to fit a normal head unit??

Thanks

Chris

Yep, should be available from most decent car audio stockists, IIRC.

Try

Have you tried removing the stereo yet?

I had a 306 GTi and when the proprietary stereo was removed there was a standard mounting slot behind. The strange corners were moulded into the normal stereo slot. If you know what I mean!
If I recall correctly the only thing I needed was an interface to my Kenwood head unit and an adapter for the 306 remote control stalk.
Drop me an email if you need more info.

No we haven't removed it yet - just wanted to find out if there were any adaptors before we got that far and realised that we might be wasting our time.

Thanks for the post - I'll check it out.

Cheers

Hi Chris

I use to has a 306 XSI and I upgraded the ICE system.

As colin said u can remove the standard moulding and u will find that there is a standard hole that will fit most head units, but always check with ice dealer first.

It's up to you, but you can either replace the moulding by purchasing a replacement that will incorporate a new stereo or you and forget the replacement moulding a just slot the new stereo straight in to the existing . It all depends on weather u like the face of the stereo slighty sunk in the dash or the face will be stick out a bit.

Also as colin said if you replace the stereo with a Sony then you can purchase a little gismo that would can bolt on that will allow u to use your original stereo control on the steering wheel.

What model 306 have you got and u thinking about replacing the speakers. Also are you thinking about adding a amp and sub. Because I installed those as well.

I've got a MY00 306 XSI and the front angled panel on the new ones are a separate Item and not a part of the radio, so you could fit a different radio and then pop into a pug dealer and buy a new suround.

And behind that stupid angled radio on the old cars is still a standard size radio hole.(or whatever you call it!)

I've fitted a Pioneer OEL(can't remember the model) into mine and the only thing I had to do was change the live and ingition wires round. Had to do the same in my old vauxhall too don't know if it is the ISO block in the car's that were different or the radio.

Hope some of this pointless banter helps

Thanks Guys for all the posts - not pointless at all

Chris - not sure how far my mate is preparing to go with regard to fitting amps etc - he just got fed up with the crappy Clarion unit that is fitted as standard. I let you know if I need anymore help.

Cheers

Chris
