Default Alpine headunit with phono inputs?

Hi

Is there an Alpine unit that has phono inputs? Or if not, some way to load MP3 tracks?

Hi,

Yeah most Alpine head units can take phono inputs - using an adaptor cable - see IPOD friendly info on caraudiodirect.co.uk

Thanks for your reply. Looking at the 9835R head unit, they talk about MP3 playback & playlists, do they mean you can upload MP3 tracks to the head unit, or just that it can play MP3 tracks off a CD?

That's right, you can't upload tracks to it because it doesn't have a hard drive built in, you have to burn the MP3 tracks to CD

Ok thanks guys. I'd have thought a flash player would be perfect for ICE. Small no need for an extra box & immune to skips. Ah well, back to my original idea of playing my MP3 player though the deck.

If your after an MP3 hard disk unit there are loads of options - although none cheap.

Dension make a head unit/tuner (but not CD player) for £400ish
There are CD/hard disk/tuner units out there but seem to cost upwards of £800 - bit much for me!

I have plumped for a normal CD/tuner head unit with aux inputs to play my Iriver HP120 through - top bit of kit!

Thanks for the info Paul

I'll check out the hard disk units, although I do prefer the sound of Alpine gear. Where do you put your HP120 when it's in the car? (I have a Rio Karma)

Erm - havent decided yet! just got my alpine head unit and waiting for aux in lead to arrive.

But i think i will probably get a universal mobile phone holder to mount it on the dash somewhere. The only snag with the iriver is that the line out comes out the top and the power is on the bottom - but ive seen holders that just grip at the sides - dont know how good they are tho.

I have just installed an Alpine 9833.

I DID connect it directly to the battery, but before doing so, I plugged it into the normal wiring loom (with Autoleads adapter) just to test it.

It has the same power drain as the 9835 (same Amp; 4x60W) and its fuse is 15A, which is the same as the one in the wiring loom... I cranked it up full, and nothing blew.....

....BUT..... I STILL went direct to the battery anyway, because I knew I'd need to connect my sub that way anyway, so better to play it safe and have a dedicated fuse much closer to the battery..... and not a fuse in the fuse box which is shared with other electricals......

Oh, how my fingers are still ACHING from removing the rubber grommet in the bulkhead where the air-con goes through...

Excellent option though; you don't have to touch the dashboard at all... once you get the grommet out, feed the wire through & it pops out just below the glove box.
