Question GarryCat: Chiark: What I am unsure of is the Front Speakers on my Impreza

I have a MY03 Impeza
I’ am going to fit a new head unit pioneer DEH-P5600MP.

Happy with the Chiark’s explanation of the head unit install.

What I am unsure of is the Speakers

Infinity 6000cs are fitted by GarryCat
And Chiark fitted the Infinity 605cs

Are they the same speakers and the 6000cs is its updated replacement, as I can’t seem to find infinity 605cs’s for sale.

On Chiarks web site when looking at the front speakers for the MY03 the page goes onto fitting the Pioneer speakers with no mention of fitting the tweeters or cross over does the infinity 605’s not come with them, why is this?

I am happy to go along with what ever speaker is recommended and fits.
I likes the look of these Brand: Pioneer Model: PIO-TSE176C
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod..._id=3265&tab=4

Has anybody found an off the shelve collar that you can buy instead of the MDF spacer?

I have read past threads, but some things are a little unclear.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Ajax, I think the 60.5cs is a higher spec than the 6000cs. At MCS (www.mcs-direct.co.uk) the 605 is £149 and the 6000 is £85.

The Pioneers on Chiarks site are co-axial speakers so the tweeter & crossover are built into the main speaker. Components are usually better because the tweeter can be mounted higher up, nearer ear level. High frequencies are very directional so if the tweeter is firing into the footwell, the soundstage imaging will suffer.

The Pioneers you like look OK but I've never heard them. You need to check the mounting depth though - any more than 60mm or so and you may have a problem fouling the window mechanism. I've heard a Vauxhall Corsa 17cm collar (Halfords have them) will fit. I used 12mm MDF and that worked fine.

Hope this helps (and there's one 'r' in Gary )

I've got CDTechnology HD62s, not infinities. I think someone else wrote an article - I'll have to check!

Cheers,
Nick.

Default Thuis what i put in mine

Infinity 6500CS's are 6.5" with seperate tweeters and will go right in but you need a spacer so they dont catch on the window, you can make an MDF one or i think you can get a plastic one from halfords for a corsa which fits also.....

Infinity 4002i's in the rear are 4" speaker and they go in with no mods at all.

Still running of standard head unit with no amps, not one for huge sounds just wanted a decent speeker upgrade that didint vibrate....

You can get them here

http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalo...peakers_30.html

Or here.

http://www.planetaudio.co.uk/

I got mine from a local dealer for a similar price..

BAH: now you have confused me, you are saying the 605CS are 6.5” with separate tweeters

Now this is the direct opposite to what Garycat/Chiark have said, and are not even listed in the Planet Audio link you sent, unless this is the Kappa 605

Chiark: At least I understand now why there are no tweeters,

http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc....&subsection=12

I was going to ask what CD Technology HD62’s are, and where you can buy them ?

However the removal of the MY03 door panel is most helpful on your website
Thanks

It seems that Infinity now do a Kappa range, but this means little to me.

GaryCat:

http://www.mcs-direct.co.uk/acatalog...eakers_30.html

Listed I find the 6000cs with a tweeter and also a 60.5cs with a tweeter both with crossovers, well the 605cs on Chiarks page has no crossover tweeter install.

Am I going nuts?

I want to do the same install as you and will buy the 6000cs with crossover and separate tweeters and do the MDF fit.

Thank you all for your replies, it would be nice to hear from anybody that has put in any other make of front speakers for sub £100.

BHA: Thanks for the amendment to your post, I thought I was going mad.

There are so many similar identified Infinity speakers, and I was not sure if we were talking old product range or new.

So to confirm the

Infinity 6000cs
160mm 2-way component system. Plus One woofer cone. 25mm Edge-driven silk dome tweeter. Intermount III mounting system. Outboard Xover. Speaker impedance: 4 Ohm. Power handling: 90W RMS. 270W peak. Woofer Mounting depth: 53mm. Cutout Diameter: 127mm. Tweeter Mounting depth: 32mm. Cutout Diameter: 47mm.

And the

Infinity 6500cs Speakers
165mm 2-way component system. Plus One woofer cone. 25mm Edge-driven silk-dome tweeter. Outboard Xover. Power Handling: 90W RMS. 270W Peak. Woofer Mounting depth: 62mm. Cutout Diameter: 142mm. Tweeter Mounting Depth: 32mm. Cutout Diameter: 47mm.

It seems the larger diameter 6500cs are 9mm deeper and 15mm larger in diameter, and you recon they fit do you M8?

Scoobyboy:
Infinity KAPPA 60.5cs Speakers

160mm 2-way component system with 25mm tweeter. Ceramic metal matric diaphragm woofer cone. Plus One woofer cone. Power handling: 90W RMS. 270W Peak. Woofer Mounting depth: 56mm. Cutout Diameter: 127mm. Tweeter Mounting Depth: 31mm. Cutout Diameter: 45mm

3mm deeper than the 6000cs and the same diameter cut out.

To Quote Garycat when fitting the 6000cs
I made a collar from 12mm MDF which gave about a 5mm clearance between the back of the speaker and the window. A layer of Dynamat Extreme also added about 1mm of clearance.

That would leave 3mm clearance at the back (close) having said that he recons that the 6500 would not fit working on his figures.

I give up!.

The 6000 appears to be the replacement for the 605 and is lower down the range to the 60.5. I fitted the 605 to my 1st MY00, and the 6000 to my 2nd without any clearence problems.
Comparing the specs (605 vs 6000) in the manuals, the only difference seems to be that the tweeters on the 6000 are 1mm bigger, and have silver mounts.
I can't comment on whether they'll fit in your car though .

Martin.

I looked at the 6500cs as well but the frequency range was the same as the 6000 and it was alot deeper, so i went for the 6000.

I had a look at the Corsa spacer yesterday and it looked about 20mm high - has anyone used this and can confirm that there is enough clearance between the speaker and the door card with it fitted.

MDBinaWagon: yep the Infinity 6000cs seems to be the safe option to go, as GaryCat has also fitted them.

GaryCat: Thanks for having a look, that was kind of you, have you seen any online listings for these spacers.

How did you lay the Dynamat Extreme in the door, I really need to know how much to buy and how and where its fitted, as you only made passing reference to it on you web page.

I will be up at the NBOII on Sunday asking lots of ICE questions, and hopefully listening to some of the systems

I've only seen the spacers in Halfords.

The Dynamat Extreme was bought from a car hi-fi shop but some online shops also do it ( http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/prod...oducts_id=1040 ). I got a single roll for £28 which did the inner skin of both front doors. I also put some spare standard dynamat on the outer door skin. It's quite easy to fit but you have to make sure it's pushed into all the undulations on the surface. A wallpaper seam roller helps.

Thanks GaryCat for taking the time to reply, like most jobs until you do it the first time it all seems a bit mystifying.

You have been a good help.
