I took my car into my local stereo dealers. They are usually very good.

I needed my 6x9 rear speakers, 5.5" front speakers, 2 amps and a 12" sub all to be fitted to my scooby.

Pick up my car that evening and it sounded superb. Slight smell of petrol, but I thought it was because the rear seats had been out all day.

Fill up my car and the petrol came straight out of the bottom. Oh Dear!

They had drilled straight though the fuel tank while earthing the amps.

Now I have no car while their Insurance company sorts it out.
Mind you though, they were very apploigetic and got straight onto their insurance company.

A new tank fitted will cost them £700. Now thats a lot.

 

That is fscking atrocious! How on earth did they manage such stupidity - the first rule of installing is check, check again then check once more before doing anything. A bit like "measure everything three times".

I am utterly gobsmacked. They should be extremely apologetic, to the point of putting it right and not charging for the original work.

I would be fuming, and reaching for a tame solicitor... That's negligence in the extreme.

 

Almost one week and I still have no car,
their insurance company are pissing around.
They will pay for it but are delaying giving Subaru permission.
I have told them that Subaru will fit a new tank today/tomorrow and if I have to pay for it, then I will be putting it in the hands of my solicitor and I will be claiming for everything I can.
Just have to wait and see - but I am not happy with their insurers - Churchill.

 

Just want to add I needed 2 amps, 1x1200w for 2 12" subs & 1x300w for front componants. Having realised fuel tank is sooo close to boot floorpan decided to have them mounted on a board, sounds like I made a good decision.

 

They should provide you with a courtesy car at least. Then there's cost of travel, all that sort of guff.

Depends how nasty you want to be I suppose.

As you may have guessed, I'd possibly not be the most forgiving in this circumstance unless they really made me happy...

Whatever you do, make sure that they use genuine parts and don't do a "yee-haw" job on it!

 

Finally got my car back.
I couldn't get a hire car as I am 1 week under 21 and Subaru had no cars to lend me.
I used my local Subaru dealer (chaplegate) to do all the work.
I am charging all my taxi fares to the car hifi dealer. (ofcourse I wasn't going to use a bus).
Good bonus though. I decided to get a Clifford 500 alarm fitted while the fuel tank was being done.
