Question What is this?

Has anyone come across this when fitting 6x9's to the rear shelf of a new age?

My old WRX didn't have this but my Jap STi does.

Any ideas?

Is it safe to move?

Thanks

Nathan..

It's a set of inductors which smooth the supply to the rear heated screen, to reduce the amount of electrical noise that the screen mounted aerial picks up.

It can be moved, but don't remove it!

Cheers,
nick.

Default Where to move it?

I took it off and placed it in the hole above the rear offside suspension strut, behind the rear seat. This is revealed when you remove the rear seat though to move it you will need to remove the rear shelf also.

I disconnected the wires from fixings all along the rear shelf and re-ran the wire through a small 'tunnel' behind the rear seat back accessible from the boot space also.

BTW Nathan, where's the rear seat belt mounting? There's a big hole in your where my upper mounting point is... just curious...

Red face

No idea mate.

Hold on...................................

Just been outside and the Jap STi doesn't have a centre seat belt. 3 point inertia or lap belt Oh well no one ever goes in the back of my car anyway.

Making the rear shelf for this car is turning into a nightmare, especially with the rear windscreen wiper mounting

Ah yes indeed. It's hard enough without the motor in the way. The end near the window has to be tapered 'a lot' to get it to fit, if you're using MDF.....
