Question

hi,

i need to replace the cardboard crap that they call 'factory fit' speakers in a new WRX Wagon - any recommendations for all 4 speakers? I usually fit JBL or Pioneer. Are they 6.5" at the front and 4" in the rear?

Cheers

I believe so on the sizes, if you do a search you'll find plenty of info. You can get 5.25 in the rears but you'll need spacers, and need spacers in the front too as OEM are 3 holes fittings.

Try this link for more info:

Hi,

I'd heard that a Corsa speaker upgrade kit (sold by Halfords)fitted the Subaru Impreza. Just (today) fitted a set of Sony speakers to my MY03 WRX Wagon. Worked fine. Holes lines up (almost perfectly) with Subaru door panel fixings and it went in under the card and cleared the window winder. Recommended - no need to cut up pieces of MDF!

Cheers

Have a look at www.iaperformance.com

The site gives good info about what will fit. Remember it's a US site and the 2003 UK = 2004 US in model years.

The contact is stephen@iaperformance.com who is very helpful and quick to reply to any questions you may have.

Thanks,

Andy.

Question

Andy,

Have you used these adaptors? If so are they any good?

I don't like the corsa spacer solution - being plastic, they tend to buzz more than MDF does. But, admittedly, it sounds like a cheap and hassle free solution.

I have ordered some which are on the way from the States.

Reading about other people who have used them in the US they fit very easily and no mods are needed.

To combat the buzzing you could always put silicon sealant between the door and spacer?

No buzzing on my Sony / Corsa adapter upgrade. But then I'm not pushing 1000 watts through them! I still have the standard fit head unit. And at present I feel that the improvement has been sufficiently large that any plans I'd had to replace the head unit can wait for a while.
