Question

Has anyone done this and if so where/how exactly? I was hoping to fit it under the rear parcel shelf but that might be tricky. It's a Kenwood 8401 amp.

Thanks

Jerome

I attached mine to a board, then attached the board to the back of the rear seats. It's a MY02 but it's the same principle...

Jerome,

Don't mount amps upside down - they don't like it!

You should find space to get a small board and amp in the spare wheel well even with the spare wheel in there...

Why don't they like being installed on their side. They are all electronic solid state and on the Audison there is a cooling fan for when the temperature rises. As long as their is sufficient air flow around the unit I can't see why you need to mount it flat.

Lyricman - nothing wrong with mounting amps on their side. Almost all are designed to work well in this way, and in my last install every amp was mounted vertically.

From what JFB said, he was going to mount under the parcel shelf... I assume that he's thinking of whacking it on upside down under the parcel shelf, which is a no-no for obvious reasons.

Cheers,
Nick.

Unhappy

Thanks for the pictures Lyricman,I guess that's the way I'll have to go.

Yes Nick, I had planned on mounting the amp upside down under the parcel shelf. I didn't realise there was a "right way up" on these things. I have octane booster, jump leads, first aid kit etc in the spare wheel well so it will have to be the back of the rear seat I guess.

Thanks again.

Most amps hate being upside down - the heat from components goes through the PCB that they're mounted on rather than the heat sinks that sit on them, which can do nasty things

I did once mount an amp upside down and had no problems with it, but it was only when I noticed that a portion of my boot floor was hot that I realised it wasn't clever !
