Iam looking for ideas of what to replace the standard unit with being as it is quite a large open space,and dont really want a cassette player!!!
would be grateful of any pics and all details of projects done etc etc

If you mean that you have a double-DIN (double-height) unit, then you can fit any standard single-DIN stereo and use the space that's left for something more useful than a cassette deck.

- Myself and many others have fitted universal pockets - handy for car park change, sunglasses, phone, etc
- Could just fit a universal blanking plate that blanks off the hole with a bit of black plastic .... but that's not quite so useful!
- Many people here have fitted SECS monitors (a digital display unit that monitors things like boost, oil temperature, etc). I've no idea how difficult this is but plenty of people here could give you advice on that.
- Or maybe a small multi-changer?
- Or a graphic equaliser - quite handy for fine-tuning your sound.

- ...or even a surround sound centre speaker!

If you replace the standard double DIN stereo with a single DIN unit then you can get the pocket from Subaru themselves that fills up the empty space and leaves you with a storage area.

I used to have that but now it has been replaced with a SECs unit.
