Question

More questions Im new to ICE

Question is, are there any speakers which will drop straight into the existing front doors? Car is a 98 STi.

I cant stand fiddling and cutting stuff, so just want something good to go straight in. I seem to remember buying some Kenwoods for my 1st scoob and they were too deep for the door cards.

Help appreciated...

Hi Dark Blue, just get a set of adapters for £19 from any decent hi-fi store. Then slide a set of Apline Components in, got a great sound out of mine. Mounted the Tweeters to the front of the window switch gear. (Can post photo's if you wish but need an e-mail address, not got to grips with adding photos on here).

Components used are Alpine SPA-136A 5 1/4" 2 way 160 Watts Peak.

Try http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/ for a great price and prompt delivery,(though I collect mine from Manchester.

Hope this helps.
If you need any more info drop me a line.

Cheers M8

If you're on a budget like me, then Pioneer TS-E1775's should be good at £90 from Halfords (or £50 on the 'net). 6.5-inch 2-way coaxials, 35-180w max, 28-30000Hz. I chose these particular Pioneers because they have a mounting depth of just 54mm (I think someone said in another thread that a 12mm spacer gives you clearance for speakers with a 68mm depth so these ones should fit in OK on their own).

So why did I bother spending ages making a 12mm MDF spacer?!! I made a complete pig's ear of it and they sound worse than the OEM ones I was replacing! Oh well, nearly the weekend, I'll ditch the spacers and screw them straight into the door - that's why I bought them. Maybe I should be posting in the Muppet Show instead?!

Just done the driver's door speaker. It's certainly an easy job to screw the Pioneers straight into the door if you don't want to muck about with spacers. It still catches on the window as it goes down the last inch though.

Oh well, that's close enough for me - it sounds a lot better through a speaker that fits properly!

I've just seen on Chiark's web site (http://www.chiark.com/scooby/icetoc.asp) that Pioneer TSE-1670s (which I assume are equivalent to the current TSE-1675s) fit straight into the existing spacers that the OEM speakers are fitted to. This is about as easy as it gets! Wish I'd seen that the 16cm Pioneers were that straightforward before I bought the 17cm versions!

I've just been onto MCS Direct and paid £45 for a pair of TS-E1675 speakers to go in the front doors using the original spacers. This should allow my windows to go all the way down and sound a lot better too!

The TS-E1775s can go in the rear shelf instead

Cool

Pioneer TS-E1675s now fitted nice and tightly in the original spacers. Piece of p1$$ - my 6-year-old nephew could have done it in 10 minutes!

Sounds much nicer now it's all securely fitted and air-tight ...... and my windows go all the way down again!

Just for your info Dark Blue,

I'm running a Clarion DVD Head unit, Alpine's up front and 6x9's mounted under the rear shelf(it was easier than cutting) but still used the 6x9 grills on top, Vibe 12" Active Bass Box and just dropping 2 x Alpine 150 Amps in next week, plus up rated speaker cables all round, gold connectors and all the rest.......I love ICE
