DIY Genesis 6*9 subs in MY01 WRX
#1
Want to fit some of the new Genesis 6*9 subs to my MY01 WRX. Dont want weight of a sub box - so here goes ....
Anyone atempted fitting 6*9's to their MY01~? Any pics or instructions of what goes where would be appreciated... otherwise off to CEL to fit!!!
Cant see how you do it as there's nothing to "latch on to" if you follow

Hi, dont know about MY01 but on MY99 it is as simple as take the old rear speakers out and bolt the new ones in from underneath. It is worth putting some foam or draught excluder around the face of the speaker which will meet the back of the parcel shelf. This will help eliminate any metallic buzzing. These speakers dont need spacers to get them past the boot spring bars. The boot spring bars appear to be the main source of metallic buzzing and would benefit from some sort of sound damping.
If my mate ever appears with his digi cam I will upload some pictures.

I can help you out a little but not as much as I would like as my car is not here for me to take any pictures at the moment.
I have just had a pair of the Genesis 6 x 9's fitted to the parcel shelf of a MY02 car. I did not want the seat belt slot affected or the structural strength of the parcel shelf compromised.
The fitting involved making a couple of MDF spacers about 3/4" thick which sit on top of the shelf and covering them in an appropriate material.
In the end the speakers are more obvious on the parcel shelf than I would have liked but hey ho.. They are not particularly deep so they they take up no practical space in the boot when they are fitted as above.
What do they sound like? Don't know as I haven't had them set up properly yet but this will change soon hopefully

Apologies - posted one or two pictures then forgot to put a link up! See here:-
Genesis 6 x 9
This is probably the simplest method of installing them if not the best. I still like talizman's idea of a purpose made board as it will look better

Hi JZA ,I have just bought a my 01 & have fitted some Pioneer 8" TSE-2080 3 way 250w speakers! My local shop said "no way" so the gloves were off. A lot of mdf rings, filler, a leather skirt for £1.90 from charity shop & 10 hours later, da-dahh! & they sound fantastic! loads of depth powered by an amp of course. I'm now working on front door builds this week to replace the PATHETIC front speakers with some Focal 6.5" polykevlar k2's. I've just cut some scary big holes in the doors this weekend. Does anyone know how to post photos on with this text, I,m new to scoobynet? cheers H8NS K (this is my reg no if you see me around)
