the 2 "din" slot in the centre panel is about 5mm too narrow
I thought this but then I realised that the head unit should be set about 1cm back from being flush with the surround and it lines up with a lip on the pocket that goes in the lower half of the 2-din slot.

have a search mate - there's a couple of options. Either a secs unit for displaying what's going on with the engine, or some gauges, or a pocket, or a flappy thing, or...

Sorry to hijack thread but I,ve tried doing this in my Import wrx sti6 but have come across a big problem. With the 2 din stereo removed I tried to fit my pioneer head unit only to find the gap was to narrow for it to fit. I dont want to start cutting. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem ?and how they overcame it?

Yes the trim around comes off but even the physical size of the metal that is the actual stereo is too wide. It looks like the only option I've got is to start cutting. Something that I don't realy want to do.

I'm no ICE expert but the Pioneer head unit with the trim removed should fit with no mods, have you removed the head unit from its single din cage ?

May be CHIARK can assist ?

I'll be interested to know because the MP77 is on my list of 3 head units !!

The M77 will definitely fit MY01+ with no cutting. Seem the link in my other thread to pictures. I have one in my car.

I was sure I had it removed from the cage as well as having the suround removed. You've made me doubt myself though, I'll have to have an other look.

I never make the right choice when it comes to electrical items. What do you think of the mp77? Now you've got it should you have chosen something else instead ? Are you using standard speakers ?

Many thanks

I love the look, and the sound quality is excellent. Bearing in mind it handles MP3 and WMA as well as being TV tuner and DAB unit compatible makes it good for a while in to the future too. The only annoying this is that track information when playing MP3's etc doesn't scroll automatically, but that's a minor point.

I have replaced the front speakers with some 6.5" Phoenix Golds, the rear door speakers with some 4" Kenwoods and running the fronts through a 4 channel Pioneer Amp. Dynamatting (or similar) is also highly recommended...

I have the same problem with on 03 Forester - the 2 "din" slot in the centre panel is about 5mm too narrow - looks like I may have to get the file out, but at £80+VAT for a new panel I had better practice first!

Any ideas?

Try a Nissan boxy thing with a flappy wotsit on the front.

Seriously, my 200SX had a plastic box/cubby hole with a spring loaded cover which now fits snugly under my headunit in my double DIN hole.
