Sat Nav is what you got there. If it was originally supplied in Japan then it will not work over here. The black bot on top of it looks like an FM modulator, to put the sound of something (TV maybe) through the stereo.

I thought the panasonic thing might play normal dvds or something and I thought the little black box was a tv tuner! (it has 4 aeriels outside)

This is pretty much the same as I've got
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=252641 : no pics tho'
Mine had a disc in it - it plays and I discovered it covers tokyo so I'll not get lost next time I'm there !
Have tried a (non-original ie cheap copy) Chinese DVD but this didn't play.
Haven't got a Asia region DVD tosee if that plays.

I found some info on the net on the screen (Model is 007 something) - nice little 7inch screen but with a useless player it's fairly redundant.

I had another play with my JDM Panasonic Navigation/DVD player / flat screen combo.
I can find my way around Tokyo pretty well now but I tried and failed on 2 points :
Tried playing a DVD film - no go at all, nothing.
Switched the unit (the screen) into apparently TV channel mode and scrolled through the channels. Through the static I could just about make out a picture - will this just need an appropriate arial ?
As for playing DVDs is there absolutely no way that it will do this ?
I'm a little puzzled as to how this can play navigation DVDs but film DVDs are are impossible : are nav DVDs encoded differently ? Can the unit be chipped ?

I guess I'm not the omly person who found a DVD unit in their JDM car when it arrived in the UK and would like, if possible, to get it working for UK discs.
